With the first Speedsouls Charity Marathon coming to a very succesful end, this post is meant to gather feedback on the event. Tell us a little about how you experienced the charity marathon!

When you write your post, please consider if you want to comment on at least any of the following areas:

Experience as a runner (selection process, information before the event, satisfaction with tech during setup, and standard of hosting during your run)
Experience volunteering at tech, hosting, restreaming or design or just event staff.

If you were a viewer watching the stream on Twitch:

Your experience of the stream,
Your experience of the donation tracker,
Your thoughts on the overall standard of runs on display, any major highlights and any genre or era of runs you thought were underrepresented.

And of course any other area you can think of!

In the coming months we'll be reviewing the event and your feedback will help shape next year's SCM.

If there's anything you're unhappy posting here under your name, please contact anyone from SCM Staff through direct message. We'll read everything submitted and hold it in equal stature to public posts here.

We are looking forward reviewing your feedback.
Thank you everyone so much again for your donations and support and being a part of the event!

Just going to be honest and post everything that I have noticed before and during the event. I think most of this feedback can be traced back to a lack of time and preparation for the event, which makes it the more impressive what we came out with.

For being SCM's first event, I have to start very positive and say how impressed I am on how everything came out really. I think we nailed all the goals we originally had in mind and how the actual stream came together after just ~1 to 1.5 months of preparation is very impressive. We raised over 12000 dollars which is incredible for a first time and I don't think anybody would consider anywhere around this to be a realistic goal for being the first event.

[ Stream quality, content and features ]
+ The overall stream quality was very good for me. With quality i am purely thinking about how crisp everything looks on stream. I don't think I have watched a single run where I really thought: "OK this looks bad, pixelated or choppy". Even with downsized feeds on 2P and 4P it looked really good.
+ Overall content was really good. Varied amount of speedruns and challenges just made it a fun for me and never once did I felt bored or repetitive. Putting in a Nioh run and Die by the Sword run there was a nice touch and it blended it well with all the souls games. Someone said: "You should put up more different runs next to souls games". I don't agree with this, but I also think there is more room for more souls-like games if we would like. Keep it within the theme though.
+ Moobot commands seemed to work really well. Just the things we needed and nothing more.
- Some runners deciding to have face-cam on 2 player or 4 player feeds was sometimes abit strange and it felt like it was kind of out of place sometimes, yet it somehow still worked.

[ Tech ]
+ Really deserves a big plus for me. The way Dark-Aries and Darkfox stayed active during the majority of the marathon and helped everyone with any question or tech issue is just really impressive. Also Noobest had a big part in this even though he was not even officially tech, he was just in Discord most of the time of the event to help setting runners up. Zoton also made everything work with Speedcontrol in a very short time. This just shows the experience of these people in this event and was really the backbone that led this event to go smoothly on the back-end honestly and something we should definitely carry over to next year, if they are down ofcourse 🙂 What this also shows is that alot of people did multiple roles during the event and that is all the more better.

[ Scheduling ]
+ Great job in such a short time even though the time they had to create the actual schedule for the event was monkaS at some point.
- At some point during the event, we were ahead around 45 minutes of the schedule. The reason this was caused was probably because of the lack of time to properly review the runners estimates that have been put up. For next year, I think Scheduling will have alot more time to prepare these sorts of things and we can also review the estimates better.
- Incentives were put up really late in the event. I am not sure whether this was a lack of time or planning but we did make it work at the end. Next year, make sure we think of all the aspects in scheduling and also include incentives in these.
We should also make sure the runners have an option to post incentives themselves so its easier for Scheduling later to make a list.
- I ran into an issue that due to miscommunication that an incentive got put up that should not have been there really and we couldn't adjust it. Next year, ensure that everyone from Staff can access the dashboard to adjust this information.
The fact we made it work doesn't mean it was kind of annoying.

[ Hosting ]
+ Honestly, hosting during the event was really impressive. I think every Host nailed to set a professional tone and adjusted very quickly to the stream after a few hours. Not once did I felt like a Host got cut off by a runner or was not capable in general of reading the things he should have.
- Next year: We should also not forget to promote the (russian) restreams more.

[ Restreaming ]
+ I can't really say alot about this which is probably good. I feel like the downtime for switching restreamers was very minimal. I think the information relayed by Tech landed very well and I don't think anyone really had big questions regarding this.

[ Design ]
+ I think the end product of all the design came out really great. Making all the layouts was a time consuming task. Especially for being the first event, it was sometimes abit unclear about what should be put where which later added up on the time needed to make them. All by all, the layouts came out really clean and uncluttered and I felt like it really emphasized the souls theme we wanted to put out. Huge shoutout to TEOM for making a very clean logo for the t-shirts and Mette for the amazing panel designs. I think you guys made something great in such a short time.
- During intermission, Speedcontrol was the only dynamic aspect in that layout while the actual text and other elements in the intermission layout were kind of static. I think for next year it would be really nice to have a more dynamic Intermission layout so its just abit more interesting when intermissions also take longer.
- Due to a lack of time we were not really able to think of putting up the DbH t-shirt to promote during the intermission layout. I think this would be a nice feature to have there. As well as reserving a part for the incentives.
- About getting feedback: Its very important for a good design that it gets the feedback it needs. I feel like I often had to ask too much for feedback while this should really be a joined effort. Next year: lets make sure everyone takes a look at it and just gives some general feedback about what they like/dislike about it.

[ Information and event promotion ]
+ Promoting the event on social media seemed to be a success. Everyone seemed to be well aware of when and where the event was gonna take place.
- Centralizing information is something that we can work on next year. Have one central place where we store all of our content whether it is documentation, links, data, or anything really. For me, it was sometimes kind of a search where the information I wanted was.

Theres probably some stuff I forgot, but since this post is already long enough, I am gonna wrap it here.
Again, great job everyone. Its just all very minor stuff I think and I am already excited for next year since its gonna be even better!

Just going to use Dark's format to express my own opinions

[ Stream quality, content and features ]
+ The stream quality was great for me when it was up and working.
+ The Content was good and had a lot of variety and I didn't feel bored watching them.
+ Moobot commands seemed to work really well. Just the things we needed and nothing more. ( I agree)
- The stream lagged alot during Ela's run so I don't know the issue there but if we know the cause, making sure that doesn't re-occur next time would be great.
- The resetting of the stream is probably unavoidable but it drops your viewership everytime that happens, so if that could be avoided that would be a + too.

What this also shows is that alot of people did multiple roles during the event and that is all the more better.(I will just use this from dark as I totally agree, Noobest also is calming and helps with keeping everyone chill before their run in discord)

[ Scheduling ]
+ The scheduling of what games went where and in what order was great in my opinion, having the relay at the end is most hype and there wasn't a time I was bored of long runs next to long runs.
- At some point during the event, we were ahead around 45 minutes of the schedule. The reason this was caused was probably because of the lack of time to properly review the runners estimates that have been put up. For next year, I think Scheduling will have alot more time to prepare these sorts of things and we can also review the estimates better. ( I agree completely with dark here, I think the estimates should be looked at more and runners should practice at least once to get a rough estimate of their submitted run)
- I think the incentives should be discussed more before the event as incentives for the relay race were done a few hours before and some input/brainstorming on what incentives could be done for the games would be great.
- I also think incentives to put a disadvantage to other teams on something like a relay race shouldn't be done, making both teams do the same thing was fun like in ds3 where me and horst had to both kill yhorm without stormruler.

[ Hosting ]
+ Honestly, hosting during the event was really impressive. I think every Host nailed to set a professional tone and adjusted very quickly to the stream after a few hours. Not once did I felt like a Host got cut off by a runner or was not capable in general of reading the things he should have. (I agree with Dark)
- Next year: We should also not forget to promote the (russian) restreams more. (I agree with Dark)

[ Restreaming ]
+ I can't really say alot about this which is probably good. I feel like the downtime for switching restreamers was very minimal. I think the information relayed by Tech landed very well and I don't think anyone really had big questions regarding this. (I guess I addressed this earlier but there is probably no work around the dropping of stream)

- During intermission, I think we should have hosts discussing the upcoming runs and maybe some background on the upcoming runner.

[ Information and event promotion ]
+ The promotion was a success in my opinion with a first year sponsor by Bandai Namco and front page exposure by twitch this is the best we could have hoped for and we got it.
- I think the fact you have to type !incentives in chat to see what challenges we can donate for wasn't too best organised, we could have them in a panel below the stream so it's easier to access and draw to that link by hosts pointing them out alongside the command,
- I think we should use reddit more to promote the start of the event the day before to make people aware it is going to start.
- I lastly think we should also make sure the link on speedsouls that said "click here for the schedule" actually went onto the schedule rather than the page "about"

Overall the event was a huge success and went a lot better than I expected and look forward to the small improvements we can make and think the community did a great job in such a short time to prepare.

Stream overall I felt was pretty solid, technical issues aside (which are understandable for any first time event like this) the only thing I felt strongly about that could have been improved were the hosts, a better job of intro'ing and out'ing the runners and runs. Just a little talk between them and what was about to happen would have been nice for those watching. Often it was just cutting to the game with a countdown timer and the person starting to run.

Something like cut to game capture scene, then the host introducing the runner, and he or the host saying what the run will be and why it's different or interesting to get viewers who don't know each and every category interested in the run and talking a bit about the runner briefly to get them more interested in the runner too.

The marathon went really well and i enjoyed it a lot. The thing I disliked were very few and they didn't hinder the enjoyment much.

GENERAL
[+] I enjoyed the content.
[-] I missed an incentive tracker.

DESIGN
[+] Design of the stream looked very nice and clean.
[-] It should be more dynamic. For example the logos of the sponsors could change more often.
[-] I was no information about upcoming runs and incentives on the layout.
[-] There should be a countdown on the intermission screen.
[-] There was no information on races about who won.

HOSTING
[-] I dislike when the host reads something. I feel like it breaks up the otherwise very natural feel of the stream. I think that promotion of the charity and sponsors could be done in a more engaging way if the hosts invest into it personally.
[-] I also dislike when the host is asking if he can "jump in". The host should know when it's appropriate because he most of the time somewhat knows the run.
