is there a better way to add a timer to a pre-recorded run than just playing the file, starting livesplit, and recording both of those?

Some video editing softwares have a built in timer feature you can add to your video. I personally use VSDC which is free and also includes this feature.

Unless you record both the timer and gameplay at the same time such as in obs, then adding a timer is usually not the best route to go. The timer could be slightly faster or slower than the gameplay due to differences in recorded frame rate or frame drops, so just IMO from someone who sees this in games that I mod, its not necessary.

What game? If its not an auto split that you used during the run the game shouldnt require you to add the timer
