Here's a link to the custom version of ScummVM I used:

*****NEWER ROUTE IS HERE: https://pastebin.com/kRzHfhHF It changes a few little things around (mostly more optimal usage of downtime while traveling between planets)

I'll leave all of this here below because it's still a good resource for learning the game

Here's a copy of the route I used/partial guide for Any%

Space Quest V any% route:

Immediately crank the game speed up. I haven't noticed the detail slider doing anything significant, so I leave it alone.

The game starts in the Academy, and you only have 4 things to do:

1: Pass the test (I haven't discerned exactly how the game checks your test score. You can pass by just answering the bottom option on every question, or you can put in the correct answers (learned from cheating), or even randomly answer them and sometimes you'll pass. Regardless, I just choose the bottom answer everytime) 2: Clean the floor 3: Watch the rat cutscene 4: Look at your grades

After looking at your grades you'll be on the Eureka, and now need to travel to 3 planets. I choose Gangularis (71552) first, then Peeyu (92767), then KU (20011).

After picking up the trash at Gangularis, you need to immediately start flying to Peeyu, and then while the ship is in transit go open the trash bin and let Spike out. You don't need to capture Spike yet, but if you don't let him out of the bin now, the ship will explode when you arrive at Peeyu.

Return to the captain's chair after freeing Spike and you should be able to sit down before you arrive at Peeyu.

At Peeyu, just get the trash and move on to KU. Do nothing while traveling.

Upon arrival at KU, get the 4 items from the toolbox (hole punch, laser gun, spare fuse, and anti-acids), go to engineering and pick up Spike, then go use the teleporter. Roger will automatically put Spike in his "cage", and he'll do it faster than you can.

Once down on KU, you have a couple goals:

1: Get the branch 2/3: Get the fruit 2/3: Roll the rock (you can do these two in either order, it doesn't make any difference time wise) 4: Use the fruit on WD-40 5: Get WD-40's head

After getting the head, go back to the starting room, beam up and use the anti-acid on Spike. Now leave and re-enter engineering and beam back down.

Use the left-over part on Roger, board the ship, and take the cloaking device. The combination is: Top-middle latch bottom-middle latch top left latch bottom right latch open top left panel open bottom right panel bottom left latch top right latch open top right panel open bottom left panel get cloaking device

Leave the ship and it's off to the Space Bar (69869)

After going to lite speed, leave the cockpit and head down to the POD room. Get the 2 items (oxygen tank and mask), use the controls to call the elevator and rotate the POD, then go back to your chair. Upon arrival, grab Spike and beam down.

The Space Bar is very short and easy on any%. Just sit at the table, quit the battleship game, use the space monkeys, then go free Cliffy using Spike.

Now it's off to Klorox II (90210), and this planet is even shorter than the Space Bar. Beam down, walk into the tent, dodge the spit, then beam back up and move on.

Thrakus (53284) is next, and yet again there's not much to do here. Beam down by standing on the teleporter and using the mask on Roger, go left, right, look in the pod, get the coat, press the button, go left again. You just need to use the coat on Bea, then use the communicator on Roger, and grab the vine. I use this time to use the hole puncher on the card, since you have to wait a bit for the vine to get thrown down, but I'm not actually sure if this saves time or not.

After beaming back up, put Bea in the pod and freeze her for 10 seconds, then go sit at the captain's chair and prepare yourself for the POD RESCUE ACTION. You can just sit and wait until the Goliath fires on you, then command Droole to take evasive action and go down to the POD room. Get inside and safety save.

I made a short youtube video about my strat for the POD:

After the POD, start flying to the Genetix Dome (41666).

Genetix Dome is very linear - become a human, then go get liquid nitrogen and leave.

Becoming human is straightforward - trigger the frog, land on the communicator, talk to Flo, go to the lab, fly into the slot and through, then onto the computer.

Walk to "restart", then "systems", "3", "Security", "Camera 3", then fly out of the lab and start bugging Cliffy. Fly to the dumpster and touch Roger to become human.

Follow Cliffy back to the lab, put the card in the slot, go in and grab the liquid nitrogen, then leave. After beaming back, you need to change the speed back to FAST and then defrost Bea for 10 seconds. After taking her out and putting her back in, go set a course for Gingivitis (81100).

Once you arrive, turn on the cloaking device and go to the POD room. Rotate the POD and go in, then click here:

Use the torch to break in, and walk up to the warp core and put the distributor cap back. Now walk out to the hall and climb down into the maze. Here's a quick map:

https://imgur.com/Y6lDA5O

You start on level 8, and need to travel to level 6, then level 4, then level 2, then find and use the switch. Here's the direct route: START: UP, RIGHT, UP, UP climb the ladder and go in the top door DOWN, LEFT, UP, UP, RIGHT, UP, UP climb the ladder and go in the top door again DOWN, LEFT, UP, UP, LEFT, LEFT, UP, UP climb the ladder and go in the bottom door DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, DOWN, RIGHT, DOWN use the switch twice

The elevator shafts might be random-ish? Sometimes the elevator is blocking your path, but if you return where you came in, then go back into the elevator, it should have moved. They can also squish you, so I recommend using safety saves.

Talk to Cliffy as soon as the door starts to close to heal the crew, then skip through the dialogue and choose the top option when given a choice. This will take you back to the Eureka.

Almost there! Go to the captain's chair, fire on the ooze, vacuum it up, tell Flo to abandon ship, start the self destruct sequence, then run to engineering. (You don't have to tell FLO to abandon ship, you can just turn on the self-destruct sequence but it's actually slower to do it this way. Technically a low% run would skip telling Flo to abandon ship and change nothing else in this route :) )

Open Bea's pod, try to teleport away, go to the service tunnel, replace the fuse (this one here: https://imgur.com/f4685Ov), go back to the teleporter and TIME ENDS once you start the teleporter. GG
