Is there a route? Because I’m not sure if I should run it without a route

Nvm I decided to stream it

You can use Zinpars' WR route except for Wooded Kingdom:

1:37:25. You can use this route as well.

I basically used the any% route with a few small changes.

Is it safe to assume that the ruleset will look like this? That rule that allows you to switch to 2P mode somewhat goes against the sense of speedrunning - why would you do that when in fact you are allowed to jump anyway? It would make more sense to seperate leaderboards or force the short switch to 2P.

Québec

My guess is that, like any new unofficial category, it is not safe to assume the ruleset is definitive. It will crystallize as runners improve on the route. The good news is that those rules don't really matter much for now.

I think the switch to 2P can be allowed under two simple conditions: the switch to 2P has to be made between the first and second cutscenes after the final Bowser fight, and no movement input on the 2P must be made after Mario has awakened after the second cutscene, forcing the switch back to 1P.

Also, the second rule (the 5 min penalty) was somehow arbitrarily created because for some, there was no way or knowing if the ground pound glitch to talk to NPC worked, but it turns out there is a way to tell by analyzing some patterns in the particle effects. It also helps by not having to reset the run if you jump by reflex. Though anyway, this rule won't matter for the top of the leaderboard.

Also, ending the timer at the same place as any%, versus on the Toadette 0-jump screen will depend on if we consider this category to be "any% but with the constraint of no jumping" or "fastest way to see the 0-jump screen". I personally prefer the latter since that was the reason Gamechamp3k made the original VGmyths video that this category was inspired from, but the former is more related to other runs - and also will have lower time.

The more people run this and optimize the run, the clearer the rules are gonna be.

As this category is so heavily inspired by Gamechamp3k's video I think the 2P switch should be forced. The initial question was 'Can you beat SMO without jumping' so timer should stop after the escape sequence. Verification is necessary just like in the World Peace category.

Doing the whole run in 2P mode takes a lot away from the challenge, so I don't think we need seperate leaderboards for this particular category.

Germany

I see the category as "beat the game without jumping", comparable to the World Peace condition "beat the game while achieving World Peace". This also makes the run end at the same time as Any% and Low Captures, which is quite a significant point to end the run, and allows for the ending cutscene to play out

Argentina

The meaning of changing to 2p, is to have a 0jumps, not to recreate Gamechamp run, we tried to follow Gamechamp method because it was the only run/rute we knew but now we dont need to use the 2p tactic to have 0jumps, anyway i will leave it in the rules that way if someone decide to make that one 2p jump in 1p run is still considerated a 1p run

The rule 2 with the penalty will be arese before the run is official, its just there for new runners

I agree with u about the rule 5 i think the time must stop when we get to see the 0jumps, but with 3 runs already i dont think is a big deal, it may take almost 1-3 min more of the run, but if the runners arent happy about the time stop i can change it with out a problem, i personally think itsnt a big deal

Rn we need 2 more runs to see jumpless in the leaderboard

What about Gamechamp's run?

Argentina

I dont think Gamechamp make a speedrun, i see hes play more like a rute for jumpless to be a thing

What do you mean by 'We don't need 2P mode to get 0 jumps'?

Argentina

Oh nvm me bad, u must do it with the 2p mode anyway, cause its the only way

I might do a run of this category sometime soon. I'd need to know the "official" punishment for accidentally jumping though.

North Carolina, USA

Personally I hate the idea of punishing jumps with time. That means someone could have a worst run with 1 less jump and still be on top. Personally I would make the leader boards run by least jumps and time to be a tie breaker. That way no one can take advantage of a time penalty by jumping to save more time than the penalty adds.

Argentina

If the category is call jumpless, there is no way u can jump, i just add that one rule (rule 2) just in case, seen this 3 runs with 0jumps, i can easily get to the conclusion that the rule will be erased when the leaderboard goes oficial I could add a "less jump" category but i think that no one will run it since 0 jumps is possible. Plus the less jumps run must have some kind of limits otherwise any gamplay/ run could easily be a less jump run, in other words the less jump run its make no sense Anyway for now let's just focus on Jumpless, if someone wants to have a "less jump" category then lets just put some rules and injoy the run

Just remember to have 5 "legit" (following the rules created for that category) runs to creat a new category

United States

For anyone interested in running this, here's a better route than the run in my earlier post.
