According to the level world records, the total amount of time is 54 minutes and 36 seconds. That DOES NOT include cutscenes or selecting kingdoms. If anyone wants to compile all of those times and add in cutscenes, it could be possible to figure out if a sub1 is actually possible.
@RandomTed I timed the cutscenes, And I came up with 1:01:22. Probably not completely accurate but I'd say its pretty close
Most people seem to underestimate rather than overestimate how far speedgames can really be pushed. Like, remember when we weren't even at sub 1:10? I don't think people thought the current WR would be possible for a long time, yet it has been a mere 4 months since the game's release. There are so many minor strats and tech left to utilise and discover we can keep improving the time for a while yet just with such optimisation. And like I said, the game's been out for 4 months, we have a long way to go.
Yh that was at the start of finding strats and routes offcourse we were gonna improve the time by a lot. However now the only thing found are tiny timesavers.
Never say something in speedrunning is impossible. If you try your hardest, it is.
In SM64, a Human Theory TAS was able to sub 1:33 hours for 120 stars. Turns out some basic movement is a lot faster if done frame-perfectly and current runners are slowly getting closer to doing that consistently; we don't know yet if similar silent time saves are possible in Odyssey
There’s a difference between a game that’s 17 years old and a game that’s 4 months old.
Still, I wasn’t necessarily talking time wise. Tricks and optimizations are still possible. SM64 is proof of that.
She doesn't mean time as in speedrunning, she means time as in years games been out
Fuck it, i wanna see a run without collecting any moons
Star%, the main subcategory in SMO64 (speedrun.com/smomemes) collects as few moons as possible to visit the Mushroom Kingdom
