Sphinx clip directly into chamber

I'm really new to running SMO, so apologies if this is silly. I'm learning the sphinx clip (and having LOTS of trouble, but I just started so it's expected) and 2/3 times I've done it I've immediately entered the chamber instead of being able to walk to the quicksand room. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Poor positioning? I'm trying to align myself by crouching and barely making my glove visible.

It's partly a positioning thing, partly an input thing.

The goal is to position yourself fairly far left on the back of the sphynx. As far left as you can stand without falling off when rolling, basically. And you want to be holding left/forward-left on the control stick as you perform the clip. You can start holding this direction as soon as you begin your GP for the GP-roll-cancel.

Hope this helps, and best of luck!

(Also, don't feel like you need to go for this clip just yet. There are many other ways to save a larger amount of time, before your time is WR-adjacent.)

Whenever I try the clip, the hat hits the wall and I don't clip through. What am I doing wrong?

You're probably roll canceling too slowly. You have to roll your thumb over XYB like really fast. I also found that I'm more successful at performing the clip if I hold unto the B button instead of releasing it, but that may just be me.

Once you get some clips it's a matter of practicing and muscle memory. This trick is one of the more difficult ones in the run and it only saves like 6-7 seconds, so I don't think it's worth the effort of learning it as long as you're not like a top tier runner (sub 70 minute PB).

Can someone send me a link on how to do roll canceling AT ALL... I have litteraly no idea on how to do the glitch... Would be really helpful for me to start. Thanks :)

If you are bonking on the wall that means your inputs are to slow right??
