What timer to buy?
United States

I have been experimenting with my phone recordings for running this game, and I found a solution so I won't have to buy a capture card. I have my phone on a mount pointed straight at my screen, and I have an OTG cable recording in-game audio. My last concern is my timer. I want a setup where I can export the file from my phone to my PC, then just upload it. In order to do that, I want a timer for the bottom of my display. It needs to have a back light so people can see, be kind-of small so it can easily clip on, and relatively cheap. I could use an old phone, but I can't find any. Any ideas?

There's a timing app on the Google Play store called "FramePerfect".

It functions just like Livesplit but has some added features.

There is also LiveSplit One.

FramePerfect is actually OP. It's free unless you want to add another game in to time for, then it's $1.99 I think, but that's worth it tbh

I'm wondering if the timer will show up on the video recording, I know there's a ton of timers for speedruns, but can any of them overlay itself onto the actual video? I only have the one phone

Valhalla

thats what i was trying to tell u before, i dont think you can put an overlay on your phone, you probably need to use epoccam.

Yeah, I figured. I was just asking because goryuya uses a phone attached to his display. I'm looking for a backlight timer on amazon or something. I was maybe thinking of buying a super cheap phone to use. I usually have the lights off in my room for best quality, so that's why I'd need the backlight

if you have an old phone or iPad or something lying around there's very likely a timer on that. Just keep it in frame of the recording and that works. I think Goryuya did this.

you could also do what I do with speedruns not on a mobile device and have a pc running livesplit and show the time during loading screens or at the end of the run. if speedrunning a game on a mobile device, three things are required: the game, mobizen (the best and cheapest screen recorder i've found on mobile) and an app called Floating Speedrun Timer on the Google Play Store. idk if it's on the App Store, but it might be.

DU Recorder is also good in my case of Mobizen not working.

Why are people in this form still? The original question was asked 3 months ago.

It's ok, thanks for the help everyone! I recently bought a webcam and now I can use Livesplit. My issues have been resolved.

I'm posting this in case anyone else is still needing for an answer. What I did back when I had no laptop was I bought the full version for FramePerfect, downloaded DU Recorder app and I then downloaded an app that allows you to see the camera anywhere on your phone, I forgot what the app was called though. My phone allowed me to display two apps at once which was nice so i could use the timer along with the camera.

I couldn't use the camera app itself since it stops working if you focus on another app. https://www.speedrun.com/sadx/run/z037ljoz This is an example of a run where I used my phone to speedrun ! Hopes this helps anyone in the future ^-^
