PAL version

I noticed that a few players are listed as playing on the European version. That version of the game runs very slightly faster than the American version. It may be possible to achieve an even faster time than the current WR (4m 55s 646ms).

I know 95% of the community is probably against this idea, but I'm just saying it's a possibility.

So if you ever wanted to be the WR holder of SMB1 then go for the European version :D https://www.amazon.co.uk/Super-Mario-Bros-Duck-Hunt/dp/B002XY2EJ6/ Good luck

I recommend you educate yourself about the game and what's viable to human players before just throwing out "buy PAL version, EZ WR."

"That version of the game runs very slightly faster than the American version." - you really need to change your information source. PAL version is slower, since it runs at ~50 FPS, while NTSC runs at ~60 FPS. If you want to learn about the "PAL vs NTSC" case, read this: http://tasvideos.org/5617S.html

people run the european version on a 50fps emulator which makes it fair against american 60fps on 60fps emulator. however, european version might be benificial in some categories such as minus world as the game had to be broken in order to run at 50fps, so stuff like full fpg can be possible to save maybe a few frameules. Nontheless, the idea of getting wr with that is not correct and please take the time to research before making a redundant post. :D

TL;DR - Appeals faster, turns out to be way slower.

The PAL version is way slower than the NTSC version, unless you do TAS strats. If you could theoretically replicate the TAS (which is extremely difficult) you could save massive time over the current WR. But if you look and study what it takes, it's significantly more difficult than the NTSC version. Even if you were to get the WR with the PAL version, the two NTSC and PAL versions would be separated anyway, so it wouldn't look that special. also wen separate NTSC and PAL?

Ah, it seems I was misremembering things. So I stand corrected. The only thing making PAL version potentially faster is a faster version of the flagpole glitch. http://tasvideos.org/5617S.html

Btw, Mario's max running speed on American version is 0x28, or 40 in decimal. On PAL it is 0x30, or 48 in decimal.
