Bounty for 4:54

On my previous post about 4:54, I asked if it was possible, and approximately half of the people said it was, the other half said it wasn't, then we started talking about 8-2, which we found out that saving a framerule in 8-2 is actually easier than 4-2, so that's cool

Now, I'm curious, if someone put a bounty for the first person to 4:54, what would that bounty have to be for you personally (yes, you, the reader) to be willing to grind for this 4:54 and be the first to get it?

no, I will grind for sub 5 pogchamp

@rt_1 So are you saying, no amount of money (which is the bounty), no matter how large, will make you willing to grind to be the first to 4:54? (doors are open, nobody even wants it)

@artismscrub I asked you how much of a bounty it would take for you to seriously grind for 4:54, not who was capable of getting it or not Keepo How much of a bounty would it take for you to join in and seriously grind for 4:54, and try to be the first to get it?

Now I mean personally, I don't think, no matter the amount, that I would take this. I feel that after maybe the first week of practicing endlessly to just learn the tricks that it would become boring quickly. And then I would no longer be able to "seriously" do runs for it anymore. Just considering the precision of the tricks. 3 Traditional Sockfolder FPGs, 8-1 FPG (accel + mavpole), Either 4-2 or 8-2 Framerule (Both are insane in their own respective ways) and to top it off, an amazing 8-4. Yeah, too much for me.

But are you saying the bounty is just for grinding? Will I get X-amount of money if I just turn on my console and like start practicing stuff, and then attempting to incorporate those strats in runs? Is that your definition of grinding the game? What, in your mind, is seriously grinding? Or is the Bounty collected when you achieve a 4:54?

@zsjetu9 What would that bounty look like to you? @ImDangerous20 The bounty is collected when you achieve the first 4:54

First to get it is almost impossible for me (I don‘t even have a sub5, although my sum of best is a high 4:57, but I‘m really inconsistent at the fast strats without hard tricks except bbg), even if I grind the game for a long amount of time every day, the best runners will already be good at 8-1 and 8-2 when I only have high 4:55 strats down at best. Like that they will always be ahead, so grinding for 4:54 is not really worth it for me. To escape this, I would have to really grind a lot, more than any other person grinding smb1.

If I would actually decide to go for 4:54, here is what I would do:

  • A job takes up too much time, so the bounty has to cover that
  • With that out of the way, 10 hours per day for 300 days/year is possible -> 3000 hours of practise per year
  • Other people will go for 4:54, even more so with a bounty offered, so I have to be quick. 1 Year needs to be enough -> 3000 hours time
  • First 6 months: Practise only, no attempts. Spend 3 hours per day doing FPGs, as that‘s what most top level runs fail at currently. Then 1 hour for 1-2 and 1 hour for 4-2 clips, 1 on fast accels in world 8 and 4 on a specific level, one per month (ignoring 1-1 and 4-1)
  • 7th month: Put everything together. Practise pairs of levels and full worlds, improve final weaknesses
  • last 5 months: Attempts. If each one takes 3 minutes on average, doing 20 per hour, 200 per day, 6000 per month, 30000 in 5 months is possible.

This is obiviously very time consuming and I can imagine it to be quite boring, so someone would have to pay me quite a lot to make me do it. I‘m thinking about somewhere around 500.000€ (Or $, doesn‘t really matter).

IMO $1m is a big bounty, even for 4 5 4. I'd say 400,000. Maybe I'm underrating this whole thing. Not to even mention $30m. That's more than 10x what the average American gets a year. If I got 4 5 4 however, I would say probably, 6,000. I'm not a big money guy. I know that's a low bounty for a successive time, but I don't think I'd ever grind/get a 4 5 4, and I don't want loads of money either.

You seem to be really underestimating the difficulty of 4:54 if you think anyone could just grind it to try to be the first one to get it.

I didn't say anything about how long it would take for a person to grind it. The amount of money I want doesn't say the difficulty on getting 4:54. Most people aren't even sure if 4:54 is RTA-viable.

4:54 is an insanely hard time, but $1m? Maybe it's worth it, I think it's too much. But that's just my personal opinion.

@Mars02 I wasn't referring to you, but mainly the first post ("what would that bounty have to be for you personally (yes, you, the reader) to be willing to grind for this 4:54 and be the first to get it?"), that to me just seems to assume that anyone could grind and get a 4:54, just because it's "theoretically possible".

If you're someone who has a lot of free time on their hands, I could see this being tempting.

However, as a 35 year old man with a career and responsibilities, I am not even remotely interested in dedicating my time pursuing a goal that seems improbable. You can bump it up to $100 million. Makes no difference to me.

I can play the lottery instead and likely be better off.

I'm with roopert. There's no amount of money that would make me try.

If I ever have the skill to, I wouldn't need a money offer to do it, I would grind 454 still.

@KingBoo ooh, my apologies.

Let me belch about what I personally think, which might make me look like a hypocrite, and a jerk in some cases.

I think it's too early for a 4 5 4 bounty. I'm not against the whole idea, and I'm not saying there shouldn't be a bounty. This will be a long-awaited bounty. And making one before humans have even gotten them in runs, let alone get some of the tricks (new 4-2 clip) in practice. It just seems so early to me.

I'm not against you, or the bounty itself lul_ecks_dee, but this'll be a long standing bounty. I do feel myself that I'm taking this in with a negative approach.

But I agree with roopert, I'm not at the age where I really need a lot of money to join the bounty itself, and I'd need to devote a lot of time into my days (which I don't currently have) to acheive such a strateigic time. My first post is referring to the future, in my adult days. Where I actually would need money like that to live, and when I have more time on my hands. This is also my personal opinion.

@roopert83 brings up a good point.. what kind of person actually has the vast amount of free time required for such a feat?

It's all about the journey, and not the destination. We KNOW 4:54 will happen eventually if it's humanly possible. It just comes down to the fact that not very many people are capable of going for 4:54, and even fewer of those have the amount of time at their disposal required to pull this off.

We're talking THOUSANDS of hours. For what? Cutting less than a second off the completion time of a video game?

I just don't see the value for me, personally. Maybe someone will eventually come along that has both the interest, skills, and talent to achieve such a time. Currently, I have none of those.

@FrameImperfect @ArtismScrub @grodney2000 Thank you for answering my question

@KingBoo I am saying that anyone can do it BECAUSE it is so difficult. If it was a bounty like 4:55.5, not everyone is going to be able to do it because the top players are much closer and can just do a simple grind for a few months and easily claim it, while the others would have to grind for a couple years, putting them at a major disadvantage to do it.

You see 4:54 is so difficult, that not even a SINGLE person even considers to attempt to go for it at the moment, not even the top players like somewes. This opens up a window for everybody to seriously try, as the amount of time it would take to pull it off would be so long, there is enough time for new players to become the best and become the first to 4:54, since they can have the advantage of dedication and willingness over the top players.

@Th3Re4l "If I ever have the skill to" Ok, so are you saying that you would grind for 4:54 for free?

The thing about skill is, it is where you are at right now. When you say "If I ever", that means you're talking about the future. We don't know the future, and at best we can predict it. What you do right now, will affect the future. So, if you start grinding for 4:54 today, and you grind hard and smart, you will rapidly develop your skill, and if you keep it up for the few years you need to, you will eventually get to the 4:54 skill level.

It's possible for you to "have the skill" to 4:54 in the future, but what determines that is what you do today. So are you going to grind for 4:54? And if it's for free, you could technically start today my dude.

@raymondamantius "not very many people are capable of going for 4:54" Well, you see, no, that's incorrect, that's very incorrect The question is not capability, it is willingness. Have you seen people do crazy things like David Goggins? He ran a 100 mile race in 19 hours, when he hadn't even run more than 20 minutes at a time before, when he was almost 300 lbs, when he was a weight trainer, and not a runner at all. He demonlished the bones in his legs in the process, and was about to die afterward, but he did it, by maximizing his capabilities. None of us even get close to what we're truly capable of, both in terms of improvement and how far we take things. The top players take breaks for months at a time, and don't always know everything, or always optimize what they do. But they are still top players, because they do more than everyone else.

It is not a question of capability, it is a question of willingness. How much would you need in a bounty to be willing to really try and become the first person to 4:54?

"Maybe someone will eventually come along that has both the interest, skills, and talent to achieve such a time. Currently, I have none of those."

Now this is what I'm asking: How much of a bounty would motivate you to be willing to attempt to develop the interest, the skills, and your talent in a fast enough manner to become the first person to 4:54?

@FrameImperfect (yes I'm @Ing you twice) "Other people will go for 4:54... so I have to be quick. 1 year needs to be enough." WOAH, that's an extreme estimate for 4:54 to happen. Notice that most of the comments on this forum are about how hard 4:54 is, and not how much of a bounty they want to see to be motivated to grind for it. Considering that and the fact that when I ask around, almost none of the TOP players believe it's possible, and when I asked the forums, only about half of the people believed it was possible. You could probably better expect 4:54 to happen in the next 2.5-5 years

So you'd probably have about 3.75 years from now, to be the first to 4:54

I like the rest of your plan to 4:54 though, although I would recommend spending more time on 1-2g, as that trick is pretty hard. However, you missed an extreme part of 4:54: 8-1 FPG and 8-2 framerule Those are the hardest time saves, and I would say would take more practice than the rest of the tricks in the game. The other thing that might need attention, is the mental side, as that is the biggest barrier for anything to happen. A poor mindset can result in NO improvement from practice, as I've had this happen before, so if you can squeeze some chunk of time on improving your mindset that would probably do wonders (all kinds of aspects, like optimal practice, enjoying the process, etc.)
