I didn't realize this when I started speedruning SMB1. However, I have learned that the Switch version runs at a slower framerate than an NES or Emulator. After comparing one of my runs that died to bowser on 5:04 pace, I figured out approximately what my time would have been. At least to my knowledge, I was even with a 4:59 I found until 4-2, where I lost a framerule. In 8-1, I lost 2 framerules, and in 8-2, lost 1 more . That puts my run that died to bowser on mid 5:01 pace. In 8-3 and 8-4, no time is lost or gained. That puts my run around 5:01.5, when if it finished it would have been much slower. Is it allowed to adjust my time on the Switch to cancel out the slower FPS? I'm by no means an expert at this game, so it's definitely possible that this is very wrong.
Unfortunately, you cannot adjust your times. You technically have an advantage with running at a slower FR; you have longer reaction time, so it's easier to hit "frame perfect" tricks. If this were allowed, you'd see all top players running at the slowest frame rate possible, and then adjust their times.
Thank you repusoiram. That's what I was expecting, I just wanted to make sure.
Any% (NTSC) runs below 4:57.000 must now fulfill additional requirements in order to be verified.
- The run's full session must be included in the submission description.
- For emulator runs below 4:57.000, some form of input display must be visible for the duration of the run. A hand-cam or input
