Separate Regions

In my opinion, there should be 2 subcategories in any% and warpless. 60FPS (main) and 50FPS. The physics difference between these versions shall make them seperated because timestamps at the end of the levels for example are mostly different, and also the timer needs to be running at a slighty different framerate - i was using iol fceux timer on a standard pal version and clocked in 4:49 but it actually ended up in 5:50. In the end, fast acceleration, different timestamps, different physics should seperate 50FPS and 60FPS as two different categories. The reason it could not been called ntsc and pal is because of switch, nes classic and so on. 60FPS shall remain the main category, 50 fps as the secondary one. Just my opinion though. EDIT: Also not to say FRAMERULES are also different between these versions which make the NTSC auto timer start too late on PAL.

Then you would also need to create sub-categories for Wii VC, WiiU VC, NESClassic, because they all have different framerates.

After all, who would run this game on PAL version knowing it's the slowest one? Probably someone who owns a PAL NES and doesn't have a strong enough computer to record runs on emulator, but we have 2020, you can use pretty much everything to record your runs. We have plenty of emulators, newer and older ones. You can download and setup NTSC SMB1 in few minutes, if you know how to use brain. All I want to say is that PAL version of SMB1 is useless (except for Softlock).

Also what about Minus World Ending? What about SNES All-Stars version? Would these categories be exceptions?

Creating PAL sub-category would only give moderators more work to do, and believe me, you don't want that.

It seems redundant to make a new category just for PAL.

Well PAL has Full FPG and it can be faster

This is something that I believed roopert83 has mentioned doing sometime 99.9999% of the time, PAL is slower than NTSC, and almost nobody is going to want to play on a slower version. But what if, one day, someone so dedicated came along and decided to get a 4:53 on the PAL version? (yes it's possible with a bunch of full FPGs that are really hard, but you can go a lot faster) Now if you play on the NTSC version, there's literally a 0% chance of you being able to get WR. You would have to switch to the PAL version to win. 1 super dedicated boi could literally kill an entire version. If we separate the regions, that's not going to happen. NTSC can continue to thrive and frames and framerules can continue to be added 1 by 1 for dedicated players to harvest and implement into their runs. renegade inmahujihu pls switch regions

Or there could be a sub-category for any% and warpless for PAL I would do the category

actually tbh, not saying it should be seperate. but i guess pal would be fun as the current pal wr is a 5:10 and it would be fun to do the redundant free fpgs and stuff and practically it would be another "category" although at this current moment I don't think it is viable to do so.

@darG not agreeing with OP necessarily but pal is different than the other versions that run at 60fps exactly. In those cases the game just runs ever so slightly slower... But in pal's case, Mario actually acts differently. He jumps longer, he moves farther forward on a backwards jump against an object (4-2 two bump is pretty easy to do) 8-2 staircase is literally impossible without slowing down. There are many physical differences. Including the possibility of full fpg (the one done with bullet bill glitch) on every level. So not saying that it should or shouldn't be a category... But you wouldn't have to make a different cat for switch and openemu and all the other versions that run slightly differently, since their physics is all identical to the NES console

Any% (NTSC) runs below 4:57.000 must now fulfill additional requirements in order to be verified.

  • The run's full session must be included in the submission description.
  • For emulator runs below 4:57.000, some form of input display must be visible for the duration of the run. A hand-cam or input
