Now that I am thinking about it, SSL may be controversial. Based on most opinions I've heard, it looks like we will be requiring re-killing all Goombas if Mario dies before killing them all within a stage.

With most current runs, runners are killing the three canopy goombas in SSL, and then collecting the Top of the Pyramid star. Then they re-enter SSL to enter the pyramid to finish off the remaining Goombas. When they re-enter SSL, the three canopy goombas are obviously respawned. Does anyone see this as an issue? Opinions?

A simple fix would be to do Talon, then Pyramid, then re-enter SSL, kill canopy Goombas, then enter pyramid for remaining Goombas. That way all the Goombas are killed in a single SSL entry, and no Goombas are respawned.

I think the goomba% clear only works if you kill all the goombas without dying inbetween. I think it is better this way because of one specific reason... and that is THI.

If you die in THI your goomba count should reset just as if it would reset on a 100Coin star but that is just my personal opinion.

Here is my Goomba% run submission. (PB = 30:24)

I really only have one specific point I'd like to add input to based off the existing conversation within this thread regarding the category and the deemed "gray areas". I seem to be the oddball out with this opinion, which is fine, but I figured I would voice it anyhow.

Personally, I feel that once a Goomba has been eliminated it should count towards your total and you shouldn’t have to "re-dead" them. Especially in places such as THI, it’s punishment enough having to traverse back to where you left off. I understand the argument that All Coins requires you to get the coins again because the stage doesn’t record coin count unless you complete it. The game (to my knowledge) does not record enemy deaths within a stage. Therefore, I don't think that should hold any significant weight in determining whether or not Goombas are counted if Mario dies in stage prior to getting all of them.

So I ran into this tonight, honestly not sure what the think of it. The Goomba was clearly still alive. Not sure what triggered it. I assume this would mean I would have to redo THI or reset haha.

that is a bit problematic idd Saysurprise. I am not sure how i want to treat situations like that.

It s impossible to kill him in this spot but you didn t kill him... so I am not sure.

I don't think that goombas falling off the edge should count for two reasons.

1: Often, the goomba will despawn before it hits the death barrier, so it wouldn't actually die.

2: In THI, if a goomba falls off the edge, but you switch islands and switch back, the goomba will still be there, proving that goombas don't die when falling off the edge.

@Fresh_Bae I've thought about it and I think it just requires a THI redo. I think it's a rare occurrence, but it's not dead so just pray it doesn't happen in a good run.

@TurkeyCookTime Thank you for your input! Where did you get this information? Especially #1. I'll have to do some testing with this.

Also if you know how to do pless this ssl strat might be faster than the current route. maybe not, I didnt time it.

@packerzilla very well done! I used to do the same SSL strat with pillarfull (which is obviously very slow haha), but I think you're right, with pless it may be faster. I also like your WF 100 + reds, may start doing that myself. I updated the unofficial leaderboard!

Although we are waiting on several additional submissions, we officially have 12 recorded runs. Thank you to everyone who has submitted! Depending on what decisions we make regarding the rules, some runs may become invalid but we will handle that once we get there. The big thing is finalizing the rules. I feel like we are still in a weird spot with the rules. Communicating through a forum thread is proving to not be the best way to coordinate this. I feel like we either need guidance (maybe from a Mod?) or a better way to communicate. Does anyone have connections with a Mod so that we could get some guidance/direction, or would people be interested in a temporary Discord server for better communication? Either way, we'll need Mod input at some point.
