Official timing method sucks

why do we not start timer on reset? the intro is part of the game too, you know. Also no other rom hack starts on file select, or after the credits

It is a pretty hard the decision where the timer starts and where it ends, that's definately true. The decision was: File Select and after the textboxes at the end. Idk how other mods are going to deal with the situation but i'd say this: I'll give the community a chance to say their opinion on how they want the rules to be till the end of October, if there are enough people that want to have another timing method they can try to convince me but also other mods to change the rules, i'd accept "retunings". BUT i really want to have the rules being fixed (hopefully forever) in November already. But to clarify: Start the timing at reset would make somehow sense, as much as ending timing before the credits does. I personally still prefer the current solution.

Now the reasons why this timing methods got chosen:

The first people that ran it (0/1 Star) decided to start at file select to name one reason. The most meaningful reason is probably the one that even kaze said, it should start at file select: https://twitter.com/KazeR4300i/status/782667545308385281

After the credits, there are still textboxes so it's technically not over + the credits part still counts for the IGT so if you lose time in an unnecessary way at the textboxes your IGT will be a lot higher than it deserves to be, that would be pretty dumb. Also if the timing ends before the credits there would probably be a few people who cut there recording at the credits already and maybe even reset the game or close it. I really don't want that to happen because there is an IGT as a part of the leaderboard and i don't want people not having that (in their videos but also in general).

Also: Why shouldn't the timing rules for RTA shouldn't be the same as for IGT? They are currently the same basically.

Ok, I understand the part about stopping the timer after credits, but I don't think kaze should get to say when the run begins (at file select). That's like if shigeru miyamoto decided that all SM64 speedruns started when entering the castle

But Shigeru Miyamoto did not say anything, but Kaze did :) And I like current timing because all slow resets are eliminated, it is easy to write autosplitter and 0/1 star runs are already timed by enter start door timing. So I think we should stick to current timing.

It's also easy to write an auto-splitter starting from reset. Slow resets aren't an issue at all.

well, although it's a pretty weak argument i can at least say that kaze is a speedrunner, miyamoto isn't :P

guys can we just use IGT for everything so that my lazy ass won't have to open wrsplit and reset the timer everytime I start a run #MakeTimingGreatAgain #IGTForLife

We can't use igt time if runner game overed - nothing will be saved. See for example time difference in space's run ;)

I can get the auto-splitter to save the in-game time lost from a game over.
