I think you're talking about a SM64 2P glitch. As used in this TAS:

i don't think it can be done in the original game!

that's already known, it's called LBLJ (which stands for Lobby Backwards Long Jump)

Well, in the video you did a double jump from the side. In your comment from earlier, you said you knew about the trick and were trying to show your cousin. From what you said, it seemed like you meant you could clip into that pillar with a long jump instead of a double jump. If this is the case, the most time it could save is very minor, as it is replacing a double jump with a long jump.

Yall RTA gets into the spot with a doublejump This guy got into the spot with a longjump Then both do LBLJ He was asking if doing the longjump instead of the doublejump could be made into a timesave. A very small one, but very small timesaves ultimately add up to the difference between a 1:43 and a 1:39

@Swirc This is really hard to follow. Please, if you can, post a clip of you performing a trick. This way, we could see not only exactly what you're talking about, but TASers could figure out how to do it and see if it could save time. If this does save time, it probably wouldn't be used in runs as it's completely different from what runners do today, and it saves milliseconds if done well, as you said. It is always good to have new small time savers for a 0/1 star TAS, but from what I can tell from what you say, it doesn't seem like it would be a significant thing. Video please!

he literally did post a video lol

Right, sorry. Anyways, every category besides 70 Star uses the lblj, but it would make more sense to double jump from the door instead of walking to the other side of the staircase and long jumping into the spot. Forgive me, but I don't think that will save time even when done with TAS level play :/
