Yes, we know about it. No, it's not allowed on the leaderboards. If it is ever completed and released (intentionally, not an incomplete version leaked) we'll talk about adding it to the leaderboards. I'm going to lock/delete new threads about this |

I'm pretty sure he did not just see it. I think we all get it. |

Not sure what you're saying, this thread isn't directed at anyone in particular. It's just a catch-all because people are going to keep asking about it. |

Aside from legal concerns, the PC port loads content way faster than emulator/N64, leading to much faster times if it was used. So even ignoring legal concerns, there is no way that the port will be a fair option on the leaderboards. |

I don't see the problem, load times already vary between N64, VC, and EMU, and we already have subcategories for those as a solution. I don't see why the PC port would be anything different. If anything, playing on the PC port would be fair because anyone with a half decent PC would have the same instant load times. |

The problem is that it isn't an official version of the game. |

Well, neither is emu, but that's still popular to run on. This game is in a similar spot the the original Doom is in (both have source code available). In that game, pretty much no one plays on an official release and uses a modern source port instead, this is even true for speedruns of the game. I don't see why this game will be that much different in that way. |

This is the first version of the first port. The decompilation project is still alive on GitHub. I'm pretty sure that there will be some updates and / or new ports. |

The difference with EMU is that the ROM itself is an official version of the game. You're just emulating the console. |

I mean technically the source code is the official game but you have to provide the game assets in order to build the game. |

Why don't we make a Super Mario 64 PC port subcategory? |

I'm pretty sure the version released not only isn't incomplete, but it also wasn't "leaked" they just pretended it was leaked so Nintendo doesn't go after the person who did the port, if they pretend it was leaked they are safe. The current released version is perfectly capable to handle runs as it is. And everything about the loading times and "official" stuff was already addressed in the thread. |

I agree, the PC port should be in a separate subcategory and if load times are a problem, the source code is public so shouldn't it be possible to make the load times the same regardless of system specs. |

Maybe I'm missing something, but if fan games are allowed here, mods for official games are allowed too... why unofficial port wouldn't be allowed? |

Why even bring up the legality when most of the time, people download ROMs to use EMU? |

you can submit the pc port as a game in it's self not a bad idea |
