Plague of Shadows Low% criteria?

So the green coins in PoS add to the % counter and low % need to be 1% but there are some coins that cant really be avoided. So is there just no way for low%?

A bud of mine did find this out though

I think we'd just make low% no upgrades. having to avoid coins is ridiculous. though it could be interesting.

Its is possible and makes it really interesting to watch.

So I think we should change the criteria back to it saying 1% because it definitely is possible to dodge all the coins and still go fast. I think this new criteria is basically a wimpy version of any% and it actually is not low% anymore since it is possible to get a lower percentage. The only reason not to skip coins is because one would be too lazy to route a fast way around the coins based on these new mechanics.

I agree with Mdma_Crayons, if it is possible to dodge all green coins it should be required for low%.

The reason I do not want to make low% avoid all coins is because of this: The point of low% is to restrict what you use as far as upgrades go. The coins don't directly give you any extra abilities. If someone did low% shovel knight and they got a music note I would still count the run as low% since they met the criteria of no extra upgrades.

I'll think about it though. I understand that it technically would be lowest possible % to not get the coins, and it makes sense to make that a criteria since in most other games it is "lowest possible %".

Could we make 2 different categories of low percent if need be? Considering that getting notes was mentioned to be part of low% for Shovel Knight, we could consider making Low% and Low Coinless%.

Nah man, low% would really just be a silly version of any%. At least currently. The expansion is still new tho. I just did a coinless run, while I did fucking shit (mostly because I've only discovered and practiced the strats today) it should be pretty feasible.

The traditional name for a run that avoids all collectibles in addition to all upgrades is 0%, at least from my limited experience. If you guys want to run that, go nuts. And for the record, Timopy, as Any% progresses I'd be surprised to see people not using a variety of bomb casings and arcana-based skips.

I've got another question about low% criteria (the kind of low% where you don't care about picking up collectibles). Obviously we can't purchase anything, that's clear enough, but what about using the health tonics that are found in levels?

I'm pretty heavily in favor of getting to use them, it makes damage boosting a lot more reliable, and that's shaping up to be a big part of Plague Knight runs (especially low%). I'll run without tonics if that's what the community agrees low% is, but I think the run would be more interesting with them.

I did my first attempt at PK Low%. It was terrible (2 Hours). But afterwards I got 2 achievements. Naked Plague and Penny Pincher. Penny Pincher is beat the game without spending any money including Cypher Coins. It seems to me that the game is considering green coins as currency as opposed to a collectable. With Music sheets, none of them are really in the way. You have to go out of your way, if even slightly to get them but the coins are are everywhere.

With the tonics, I skipped the chest in the plains that gives you five but I did use the ones scattered in the OoNQ levels. They felt more like health drops in a sense when I found them in the stages. What do you guys think?

Tonics are allowed. They do not count toward %
