Xbox vs PC: Loading Times

With the re-release of Shenmue 1/2 (we could call them S1.2 / S2.2 respectively) I expect many people to do comparitive research with this new version and the old (S1.1 / S2.1). And hopefully with this large group of new Shenmue players, some will speedrun it.

One of those comparisons will no doubt be loading times. So today I did a rough timing of A1major's 1:53:51 any% starting the stopwatch whenever the screen started to fade to black (beginning load screen) and stopping the time when the player began moving.

The total loading time for that run is 24m53s Full timing list: https://pastebin.com/ywvigg6b

Note: I did NOT include the brief loading for skipped cutscenes, unless they were connected to a loading screen (which is a lot). And I did NOT include those quick (~2sec) blackouts, for example the book dropping sequence where the screen quickly fades in and out of black between each drop.

p.s. I sent a message to puri_puri asking for his detailed records on this topic.

Discussing load times with BlueMue on ShenmueDojo, we found that different individual consoles can produce different load times - the fairest method would be to remove load times, but this is difficult to do manually. I could look into finding (or making) a tool to remove them, if the demand is there.

By the end of this month I'm guessing people won't be running on old consoles anymore, so I guess we should wait for HD, to have comparative loading time data between PS4 vs XboxOne vs Steam.
