How to Downpatch Sekiro to 1.02/1.04 (PC)

[Section=Introduction]
Some Unrestricted and No Airswim runs of Sekiro are fastest on previous patches (1.02/1.04) rather than the current patch (1.06). This is because a lot of useful skips and glitches have been either changed or completely removed. That being said every run is still possible on current patch and downpatching is entirely up to the runner's choice.

The downpatching process used to be much easier, but was completely changed when Steam removed the ability to downpatch through the console. There are now two methods of downpatching: patching Steam to re-enable the console method and using a tool called DepotDownloader. Patching Steam is the easiest so the guide for that will be listed first.

**Do note that save files that have been played on 1.06 will not work on 1.02/1.04.** You may need to turn off Steam Cloud synchronization for Sekiro to prevent 1.06 files from showing back up on your downpatched game.

[Section=Patching Steam]

**1)** You need to download the Steam patcher **[here](https://github.com/fifty-six/zig.SteamManifestPatcher/releases/download/v3/SteamDepotDownpatcher.exe)**. 

**2)** Launch the downloaded executable to patch Steam. You'll need to do this again every time you restart your computer or Steam and want to downpatch.

**3)** Navigate to the Steam console by pressing Win+R and typing "steam://nav/console".

**4)** Enter the following 2 commands, waiting each time for the "Depot download complete" message to appear:

**For 1.02:**

download_depot 814380 814382 3790569681063041856

download_depot 814380 814383 5495069844870915919

**For 1.04:**

download_depot 814380 814382 3631105265998125253

**4.5)** If you have issues with the 2nd of these commands (should only be the case in Asia), then you may need to use a slightly different command:

**For 1.02:**

download_depot 814380 814385 8515152497741126867

**5)** Be patient on the downloads, they'll likely be slower than a typical Steam download. 

**6)** There are 2 additional files you'll need that are missing from these depots, **[sekiro.exe for 1.02](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DVtbzl7GVVD2pBFvm1TgiIZ_KH6D8FvW/view)**/**[sekiro.exe for 1.04](https://drive.google.com/file/d/19-Kx80thraxlF4nT6SmELqOoW1R6zhUE/view)** and **[steam_api64.dll](https://drive.google.com/file/d/13ajeB8uOBXfBOmcYFfdZqeH38bwHum1f/view)**. Download these separately to a location you'll be able to find them and extract the "sekiro.zip" folder to find "sekiro.exe".

For 1.04 you'll also need to copy the **pack.dat** file from your 1.05 install as the command for downloading it doesn't work for some reason.

**7)** Now you can move on to the Installation section.

[Section=Installing]

If you used the patching Steam method, the old patch files will be in your Steam install folder under "Steam\SteamApps\content\app_814380" and inside another folder.

If you used the DepotDownloader method outlined below, the old patch files you downloaded can be found in the "depots" folder inside 2 subfolders named after the depots (814382 and 814383, 814384 or 814385). 

In each folder the important files are everything except the ".DepotDownloader" folder.

If you only want a downpatched version of Sekiro installed, you can delete the files in your current Steam install and copy these files there instead along with the 2 extra files you downloaded earlier. However, there is an easy way to have multiple versions of Sekiro installed that I'll outline below.

[big]**Multiple Installed Patches**[/big]

**1)** Create a folder anywhere you like and name it something that'll remind you it contains your downpatched Sekiro. I created a folder named 102 in the same location that I downloaded DepotDownloader to. Copy the old patch files here, including the 2 additional files you downloaded.

**2)** Create a new text document in this folder titled "steam_appid" and in that document copy only the number "814380". **If you have file name extensions showing, the name of document will be "steam_appid.txt", if you don't you'll only see "steam_appid".**

**3)** Optional: Add this install to Steam as a Non-Steam Game so that you can launch it directly through Steam whenever you want.

[Section=Save Files]
Save files aren't compatible between 1.04 and 1.02 so you'll need to delete or backup the "s0000.sl2" file in "%AppData%/Sekiro".

[Section=DepotDownloader Setup]

**1)** You need to aquire .NET Core from Microsoft's website **[here](https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-core)**, make sure to download the current recommended build for your operating system (Windows x64 for most users, but please check this).

**2)** Launch the downloaded executable and follow the instructions to install .NET

**3)**  Download the DepotDownloader tool from GitHub **[here](https://github.com/SteamRE/DepotDownloader/releases)**. Find whatever the latest release is and make sure to use the first download link, **not the source code**.

**4)** Move the .zip to somewhere you'll remember and extract it (WinRAR and 7-Zip are free tools that can extract .zip files)

[Section=Using DepotDownloader]

**1)** In the extracted DepotDownloader folder bring up the command line at that location by typing "cmd.exe" into the address bar or by Shift + Right-clicking and selecting "Open PowerShell window here".

**2)** Now you can enter the commands to download the downpatched files for Sekiro. 

For 1.02 there are 2 different depots that we need, which require 2 different commands:

dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app 814380 -depot 814382 -manifest 3790569681063041856 -username <username> -password <password>

dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app 814380 -depot 814383 -manifest 5495069844870915919 -username <username> -password <password>

For 1.04 use just the one command:

dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app 814380 -depot 814382 -manifest 3631105265998125253 -username <username> -password <password>

Starting with the first command, **replace the <username> and <password> with your Steam account details**, paste it into the command line and hit enter to begin the download. **If you have Steam Guard active you will be prompted for your code**. Here's an example of me using the command to download the first depot.

You will be able to check progress as the files download. Be patient as it will take longer than a normal Steam download.

Once it's finished, just repeat the process with the next command until you have both completely downloaded.

**2.5)** If the last command returns "Depot 814383 (Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - Activision) is not available from this account." (should only be the case in Asia) then you'll need to use a slightly different command:

For 1.02:

dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app 814380 -depot 814385 -manifest 8515152497741126867 -username <username> -password <password>

For 1.04:

dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app 814380 -depot 814385 -manifest 1613271962634429538 -username <username> -password <password>

**3)** There are 2 additional files you'll need that are missing from these depots, **[sekiro.exe for 1.02](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YvriOiAHkcqz_8Ykqr0eBbQca6O4cWiG/view)**/**[sekiro.exe for 1.04](https://drive.google.com/file/d/19-Kx80thraxlF4nT6SmELqOoW1R6zhUE/view)** and **[steam_api64.dll](https://drive.google.com/file/d/13ajeB8uOBXfBOmcYFfdZqeH38bwHum1f/view)** (the bolded text are links to the files). Download these separately to a location you'll be able to find them and extract the "sekiro.zip" folder to find "sekiro.exe".

For 1.04 you'll also need to copy the **pack.dat** file from your 1.06 install as the command for downloading it doesn't work for some reason.

How to Make LiveSplit Transparent (See-Through) in OBS

# How to Make Livesplit Transparent in OBS (Quick Guide)

[Open Broadcaster Software (OBS)](https://obsproject.com/) lets us add a filter that will remove whatever background color we have on LiveSplit. OBS is the recommended recording program, however a similar method can be used with other programs to achieve similar results.

Firstly, you should make your splits background a solid color, you should use a color that LiveSplit won't use to display stuff you want to keep seeing, because we will be cutting out everything of the selected color. Black is my choice, because it gives the best text clarity in the recording. **Note: Default layout settings work fine.**

By default, the coloring is set to be a gradient. For best results switch to solid color, although it will still work with the other options (highlighted in red). Each layout component (highlighted in yellow) will have its own color setting, make sure they're all the same. (**Again, default settings are fine**).

In OBS, you will want to have your Sekiro captured with a **Game Capture** source. This gives you the best recording results. Press the **+** in the **Sources** box and add a **Game Capture** source. Shown below:

**Game Capture** will only show the game, therefore we need to add a seperate **Source** for LiveSplit itself. For capturing LiveSplit we use a **Window Capture** **Source**. Add the **Window Capture** from the same list as above.

After naming it, the following window will appear. Put LiveSplit as the window.

I recommend setting the "**Window Match Priority**" to "**Match title, otherwise find window of same executable**". This ensures that that source will never try to capture anything except LiveSplit.

Now we'll add the filter that will remove the background of LiveSplit. Right click the **Window Capture** you created for LiveSplit (mine is called Splits) and press **Filters**.

Then add a **Color Key**. Set the type to **Custom Colour** and choose black (or whatever other background color you use). Then finally, adjust the **Similarity** slider until the background disappears.

If you set LiveSplit's background color to **Solid Color** then you only need similarity at 1. With LiveSplit's default layout settings you will need to set it higher to properly mask out all of the background.

That's it.

A final note: Make sure that the LiveSplit **Window Capture** is placed **above** the Sekiro **Game Capture** on the **Sources** list, or else LiveSplit will be behind Sekiro and be invisible in the recording.

How to Remove Kuro's Charm

If you've gone into NG+ on **any** save file, you will receive Kuro's Charm at the start of any New Game, and Kuro will have extra dialogue pertaining to it, losing time for speedruns.

Firstly, be sure to disable Steam Cloud synchronization for Sekiro. You can find this setting by right clicking Sekiro in your Library -> Properties -> Updates -> Uncheck "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice".

The only way to prevent receiving Kuro's Charm is to delete your .sl2 file from your Sekiro AppData. This can be found on your PC at C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Sekiro\[bunch of numbers]. If you can't find the AppData folder, make sure that you have set hidden folders to be visible in your Windows settings.

Simply delete S0000.sl2 and S0000.sl2.bak from this folder. Note that **this will completely wipe all of your game's saves**. If you want to backup some savefiles beforehand, you can copy these files elsewhere beforehand or use one of the save organizers listed on the **[resources page](https://www.speedrun.com/sekiro/resources)**.

The game will automatically create a new .sl2 file for you the next time you launch it. You can tell that the files were successfully wiped if the game prompts you with it's Terms of Service again upon startup.

How to Use LiveSplit and the Integrated Game Timer

Running Sekiro on PC requires use of the **integrated game timer** in LiveSplit, which fixes the game's IGT (making it no longer fps dependent), displays IGT accurately in LiveSplit and autostarts the timer. This helpful tool is also very easy to install and get working.

**1)** Download the latest version of LiveSplit from their website **[here](http://livesplit.org/downloads/)**. This downloaded file will have to be extracted and the folder placed somewhere you'll remember it.

**2)** Open LiveSplit, right-click and select **Edit Splits**.

**3)** Find Sekiro in the **Game Name** field and **Activate** the integrated game time component.

**4)** You can add Segments here to your liking.

**5)** Right-click LiveSplit and select **Compare Against -> Game Time**

**6)** Right-click LiveSplit and select **Edit Layout**. You can add whatever you think is important here. Most people just have a **Timer** and **Splits**.

If you already have a layout set-up, make sure that your Timer is set to **Current Timing Method** or **Game Time** in your **Layout Settings**.

**6)** If you don't want to have to Alt-Tab to split, you need to activate **Global Hotkeys** in LiveSplit **Settings**.

**7)** If you want LiveSplit to show up over your game, you need to make sure **Always on Top** is checked in your **Layout Settings**. Edit: This might not work if Sekiro is in fullscreen.

**8)** If you have issues with the timer not automatically starting or not correctly showing the integrated game time **triple check you are comparing against Game Time**. Otherwise try restarting LiveSplit, running LiveSplit as Administrator or asking for further advice in the Discord.
