Rules and some routing questions

So I was thinking about doing a 4 player run of this and I had some questions:

What cheats are and aren't allowed? I know the the WR vid the Noble Sacrifice cheat is used numerous times to stack up on money, but what's stopping runners from say, using the cheat that gives the Power of Love for every level? Is it just agreed upon that we can only use the sacrifice cheat?

Secondly, why is it that we purchase from Wallace's shop for stat maxing? Wouldn't no account video be faster to max stats on?

Hey, glad to hear you are interested in this game.

As far as what "cheats" are allowed, technically speaking, Power of Love is fair game as far as I am concerned. (I honestly forgot that cheat existed) I am not sure how everyone else feels about it, due to the speedrun community of this game being basically dead now days. Any% is basically starting the game with a clean save file for your characters, then completing the game by any means necessary without any outside resources. (Such as modding the game or Game Shark)

So after bringing this up, it may be a good idea to add a sub category for "no cheats" in the future.

As for the routing choices, there are a couple reasons I use Wallace's shop: 1. being it's technically cheaper in the long run, and you get more stats for your money. The video store, you have to pay off Scott's late fees before you can do anything, which takes a couple more minutes (although this route is less risky). 2. When you do the glitch by the park to walk off screen, the entire level is loaded, but the enemies do no spawn in without the camera being there, so you can actually go all the way to the final door like that, but I like to try to hit Wallace's shop along the way, to get my stats and reset the camera, then move on. For me, it's kinda hard to tell where you are at without the camera and it's kinda easy to get lost or even miss that last door, and from my experience...i hit Wallace's shop more often than the final door, so I killed two birds with one stone.

These routes haven't had an extreme amount of testing done with them, so if you found some tips or tricks along the way, feel free to share with the community!

I hope this helps answer some of your questions.

I know this is beyond the scope of the thread, but since you brought it up, I think a no cheats category would be great. Repeatedly doing noble sacrifice for money is really tedious and not very fun or interesting imo.

Cool, thanks for the response! One other question: for Cheat%, if you're doing a 1P run, would you be allowed to have a 2nd player at the start when spamming Noble Sacrifice? It saves a lot of time not going into the game over screen in comparison to doing it solo

No. as soon as you select a second character, I would consider that a multi-player run. Single player run, you do the whole thing with one character, from beginning to end.

Also in regards to No Account Video vs. Wallace's Shop:

NAV requires $505 for the late fees, but only $50 to max all stats out to 100 and about $50 more to buy the exp DVDs to hit level 16

Wallace's shop is $260 to max Str, $220 to max spd, and $480 to max def and WP, resulting in a total of $960 to fully max stats

The question I guess would then be: would you save time getting ~300 less dollars if you have to make 12 more purchases!

Well, maxing out all stats at the video store is why that route is considered safer. In Wallace's shop, I personally only max out Speed and ATK, so this is why I consider it a bit faster personally.

As for actually testing it out and actually timing both ways for an official time difference, I have not done that.

where is the best spot to grind the money to max all the stats?

I would also like to know this lol

I basically use the "Noble Sacrifice" cheat to farm money.

The cheat has changed since the PS3/X360 days.
