Level category for pre 1.16 vote

Since Freezard is the only one (thus far) to have mission runs before 1.16 with strats exclusive to them, while everyone else is running 1.16+, having two separate categories for "pre 1.16" and "1.16+" may be a viable option. This would let the best records as of somewhat recent be visible on the main IL board and not be permanently hidden. Any thoughts?

I've added a tool that me and a few others on SDA used to switch versions when we were running the game. Actually there is another guy who has a few records on older versions, I'll try to look em up and add them, although I don't think he has videos for every run.

I'm not voting here, but wouldn't a 1.16+ category make the leaderboards more cluttered? Roughly half the missions in SC and BW are optimal on 1.16 so for all these missions there would be no point in having an old version category for example. So there are about 30 missions in total that can be beaten with 1.16, I think most people are just not running ILs but SS and that's why there are no new records (if that's what you mean).

In the interest of keeping the competition of those who are actively running the game tracking the patch or version number and then just requiring to run at latest show the version number which is normally visible from the start screen.

Alternatively could just do a 2 way split for pre 1.16 and latest 1.16+ which would in include RM versions as well.

I agree that there should be separate leaderboards for 1.16+ and <1.16

1.16+ could also be known as post-1.16 or glitchless.

<1.16 could also be known as pre-1.16 or any%

Since I am a <1.16 runner I think that the default leaderboard should be <1.16, but obviously it should really be on whatever category is run most often.

Just as an interesting aside, glancing at the leaderboards, in my uninformed opinion, I think that most of the 1.16+ runners have probably left already. It seems to me like most of the runs occurred 9 months ago, and one runner in particular catches my eye, MrLlamaSC. He is a reasonably popular diablo 2 streamer/speedrunner I used to watch, and I think that he started to stream starcraft, which is why all of a sudden there were a whole load of starcraft runs made. Then when he made his last run 9 months ago, everyone stopped running starcraft again. To reiterate, this is my uninformed opinion.

An alternative theory is that maybe that is when remastered came out (though I can't even be bothered doing the research for that lol)

Also just wanted to record the following:

The advantage of using names such as "any%" and "glitchless" is that it follows the conventions for many other games.

The advantage of using names such as "pre-1.16" and "1.16+" is that it makes it very clear what is considered allowed and what is banned.

I personally would love a 1.16+ leaderboard. I feel glitches are basically a different form of cheating and it's not fair to someone like me who wants to try organically. There is no way I can beat the terran campaign in an hour without compromising my gameplay "ethics". I would gladly start running if one was made.

If you think using glitches is a form of cheating then im wondering why youre here lol.

This is why people run on 1.0 in most games, lttp aint going to make a v1.1 or a v1.2 board just because 1 person run that.

Kind of a dick response for an admin. Just goes to show that most speed runners are assholes. I just wanted to try and prove myself as a player without glitches, but I guess I don't need to. Toxic ass community can't even offer something for everyone.

And to clarify, I thought this was a thread asking our opinions on adding exactly what I want. If my comprehension of English is off and I am wrong, please inform me oh might Deln. Glad to have my first interaction with the community be such a positive one.

I'm actually a big fan of the current setup where everything is consolidated into a single LB with a column for version. Is it possible to have the filter for version be an inequality (e.g. <1.16 and >=1.16)? Right now it looks like you can only filter for individual versions which is inconvenient for anyone who wants to view the LB in a way that boils down to "any%" vs. "glitchless".

Québec

@onlyon41month my bad if you took it wrong, but there really is no reason for a glitchless category, that's where filters come into play. instead of adding a new category for that, you can just use the filters to check by versions.

I like the version column... one thing though: does it really matter if it's vanilla or Remastered? It will be messy if there's going to be 1.21 vs 1.21R etc for every patch.

One guy added 1.21.4.3720 (but the four last digits can be omitted, 1.21.4 is cleaner and is the same thing), I think that's the best approach just adding the exact version even though for campaign nothing really changes with the minor patches.

Version does matter for vanilla vs patched in original game due to various tricks and AI glitches on runs. As for remaster like most games of its kind running on different latest patches at the time of run always have minor or even greater differences when it comes to the same tricks and glitches.

Honestly it's better to track it and then decide if enough differences wold warrent more divisions on version. Afaik it's just the versions with major changes that affect runs, which is completely reasonable thing to do especially when said games are going to be updated often.
