Thread: Rules for remapping multiple keys to 1 action?

Macros aren't allowed. Using turbo controllers (or controllers that allow macros) isn't allowed. Keyboard + controller is within the rules.

1 - You SHOULD not but anything. There's no controller that is objectively better than another, you play with what feels more comfortable to you.

2 - Same goes for control schemes, but since you are asking for suggestions: I play with shooting on L1 and dash on Square on a PS4 controller, but I'm focused on run n gun levels, so my scheme is not the best for WSG, it's focused on dash controlling.

It may affect the game in more subtle ways. I suspect there's something that affect invincibility duration / frames, don't know if it's related to Vsync.

It may also affect rate of fire, WSG timing and boss cycles. More in-depth testing and analysis is required to figure those things out.

Btw, it also messes with the autoscroller on Perilous Piers.

Recently I've discovered that using Vsync ON and refresh rates above 60hz makes the autoscroll section on Rugged Ridge run much faster than intended.

To showcase this, here's a run by Nuby:

And here's my run:

You can see that his section takes about 15 seconds from start to finish and mine takes about 24, if you count from the time the platform start moving to when you can progress the level after it has ended.

After some investigation, I managed to replicate the "fast autoscroll" with 120hz and Vsync ON.

Some discussion already took place on Discord and DevilSquirrel pointed out that Vsync runs with refresh > 60hz are banned in the Ori leaderboards because it also affects the game.

I believe there's a decision to be made to what should be done about this. In my opinion, runs that exploit this behavior should not be allowed.

Regards!

This is a very odd argument you've made my man. It's not a choice currently, hence our discussion.

My argument has nothing to do with having a separate no-WSG category, I'm just saying "being unhealthy" is not an argument for anything because people have the choice to do unhealthy things.

btw, I have no idea how to quote on this forum, I just manually inserted the tag.

I agree with that, I was just saying what I would do. I believe speedrunning is about extremes. There are optimizations, there are strats, there are routes but there are also glitches and exploits. WSG isn't any different from what I've seen / done in other games. I just don't like the brain-dead smashing part of it, but I think it SHOULD be allowed.

At the same time, not everyone has the same age / body, so some people might be put off byt the physical aspect of it, which may not be a problem for some, but might for others. I myself would tike to avoid the strain, but "being unhealthy" is not a good argument against WSG. You know what else is not healthy? Speedrunning the same game sitting in front a computer for 5 hours. It's a choice.

One thing that discourages me from boss runs is WSG. I'm not keen to using macros to speedrun, since I think it defeats the purpose, but if WSG runs end up being the norm (as in, the most popular way the game will be played), there's a high chance that I will resort to macros since I don't consider spamming the same button 100% of the time something that takes any skill, it's just stupid.
