I was planning on adding DS if someone ever did a run, maybe someday
Update: I've come up with an even better and probably less sketchy method for accomplishing the same goal, I go over it here: https://www.speedrun.com/pjkk/guide/mnlb0
I'll be adding this to the rules as well. It's a 2~ minute setup, but the whole intro cutscene is completely bypassed altogether, on all versions, every time you start a run. :D
Tested successfully on SNES!!! Only a matter of time before someone completes a run with it
i humbly request the change ukobotic --> ukotunes please!!!
Hard resets are no longer banned. Hurray!
More Super Series will incite more "add boogey% to the leaderboards" discussions, though, won't they?
Yeah, removing sok% wouldn't make sense I agree with temple, the idea of boogey% being a category makes it more likely to be taken as an "I should grind this" kinda category which sorta defeats the purpose, but at the same time I don't see anything wrong with that necessarily? If people really want to grind boogey% they'd do it anyway without a leaderboard, eh? That's why I think that if it does become a src category then it should be shoved pretty much to the back of misc, it's not a Big Category by any means but if ppl want a leaderboard for it it can be here. I don't like the idea of only being able to post a time if it's in a race
I personally don't think adding Boogey% as a misc category would do much harm, if any. If a lot of people, especially new runners, wanna be able to post a time that isn't either a really long run that they can't do as often or a really difficult and/or intimidating glitched run, I think Boogey% would be a good solution to that. As long as everyone spells it right. ;)
I do see the potential that this category brings for new glitchless runners as well... I feel like if more people are incentivized to start with Boogey% since there's an actual leaderboard for it, then they're more likely to be like "well shucks now I really wanna try glitchless" later on even though they ¤think¤ it's too time intensive and all that stuff at first. :?
But I miss resetting over naming stuff slightly too slowly :'(
Discussed with kyo up there ^ New timing start is in place, effective immediately. All future runs on console/PC (not handheld) should start when The Venture's loading screen (the map animation/cutscene) starts
Probably don't need a forum post for this but whatever
I'm not exactly sure why some platforms can skip the opening movie cutscene and some can't, but I'm pretty sold on that it's an NTSC vs PAL thing. No one knows for sure though since I don't have literally every version of the game at my disposal to test ;p [EDIT: I've finally accrued an NTSC GameCube version of the game and, sure enough, it can't skip that cutscene either. Also you can't zoom in on Kong's face during Sacrifice.]
Anyway, I think it'll be better for everybody if we move the official start of the run where we start the timer to AFTER that cutscene, when the loading screen for The Venture starts. Not just to cut a free minute off of the run, but it'll settle the arbitrary "gentlemen's agreement" we have to just not skip it, when it would obviously be faster to skip it. Plus, if the cutscene is removed from any vod, there will be no copyright trouble. ;) Everyone with me on this?
Can mine please be changed from UKO to ukobotic? Decided to go for consistency across all social media accounts. Thank you!!
Emulator rules for the EarthBound speedrun (and therefore this speedrun) are based on speedrunslive's rules for emulation. bsnes, snes9x 1.53, snesgt (the one i use), and vc are all allowed. Zsnes and all other versions of snes9x are banned, pretty much for the reasons you already listed. Edit: But I guess it would do us well to specify that in the rules of the run as well so there's no confusion. ;p
That sounds good. If more of us decide to run M2 it'd be cool to have a leaderboard more accessible to us. Same with the rocketless category, I'd be interested in trying that at some point 0:
Thank you! I originally did use that thread but deleted the post because I read I should ask the supermod, but thanks again!
I was recently made supermod on the king kong series when i asked for the supermod there to make me a mod for a specific game, is there anyway I can make myself a regular mod for that game? Everyone else there is inactive so I want to make edits and such, nothing too extravagant though. This is the game btw, I have the WR for it http://www.speedrun.com/Peter_Jacksons_King_Kong
edit: I only ask because I'm new to this site and know how to do and could find nothing. ;p Any help would be appreciated!!!
