For future reference, it's generally better to post in the forums of the game that your problem is related to rather than any of the main forums as you'll likely find more help there.

I couldn't find a page for Item Randomizer specifically, but I would look towards posting on one of these forums about it: Super Metroid: https://www.speedrun.com/supermetroid/forum <-- Most active Super Metroid Category Extensions: https://www.speedrun.com/super_metroid_category_extensions/forum Super Metroid ROM Hacks: https://www.speedrun.com/supermetroidhacks/forum <--Empty

It would also be good to be specific about what you've already tried doing. (There's also multiple versions from what I can tell, so I'd specify which one you're using.)

The route's looking great! Now that I've taken care of everything else for the day, I can get to work on writing up the Cooking Glitch technique and doing frame-by-frame testing in emulation. I'm not sure if I'll get to a video just tonight, considering the oncoming storm, but I'll try and get a short guide to applying the Cooking Glitch.

I'm really happy to hear that just doing the axe upgrade can make some positive changes. I've always been searching for a way to enter the Greed Cave at the earliest possible convenience and I'll see if it is possible to use L+Select to pass through the barrier. (Maybe it's just because I seem to be bad at counting to 100.) I'll check both versions, but at this point JP may be more useful for just the Cooking Glitch, let alone the faster dialogue.

Considering the circumstances, I'm wondering how hard it would be to get two more pieces of iron for an upgraded watering can. I don't remember how powerful the 2nd tier can was, but I do remember that it charge attack seemed to have a high multiplier. Regardless, I think saving some of the glitched sashimi for its bonus water damage could help (anything to get the shifts out of the way quickly would be nice).

Edit: An Update- I've modified the guide to include a short instructional on doing the Cooking Glitch, as well as an extra, very fast method to generate eight more mystery sashimi. I'm currently working on doing a video for it now.

Also, would it be worth considering adding the healing potions to the route? They make good healing in a pinch, for safety's sake, even if they are slow to get.

In terms of speed, all PSPs use the same processor and almost all of them have the same RAM amount. (The PSP 1000 is the only one with 32 MB of RAM and system storage while the rest have 64 MB RAM.)

However, only the PSP 2000 and the 3000 have Video-Out capabilities, making for easier screencapture. Aside from physically different sizes (2000 has a bit of thickness to it), the only two differences in their hardware is that the 3000 has a built-in microphone and starts on a higher version of system software. (The component cable needed to use this function is also in the article below.)

Scroll down a bit from here for the table of specifications: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable#Designs

Be really careful with sellers of these. There's a lot of "for scrap only" on the market, (as in, only a few parts are useful,) as well as a whole lot of people selling who don't list the correct model type. It's been a month or two since I've been watching, so there may be some good stuff out there.

As I've been working with these glitches, I've gotten the Cooking Glitch to work, but only on a Japanese ROM. It seems to have been patched out in the year it took to produce the USA version.

It seems to be a form of memory exploitation. The spot in question (one down, four over, third page) rewards a Sashimi (of some kind) that heals a bit, restores a bit of RP, does some rather strange modifications to your stats, and provides some elemental damage and resist. The actual point of interest is that it is level 229 and sells for 107,630 gold. The item used for duplication does not seem to matter- it can be a rock, a weed, a branch, or your watering can. Having an item on the first page is not required and the glitch only seems to happen on the third page, but having the item there helps visually. Raguna's cooking level also doesn't seem to have any effect on this.

The spots give: Level 1 Turnip, N/A, N/A, N/A, Level 4 Tomato Level 3 Turnip, Level 3 Eggplant, Strawberry before and nothing now, Level 229 Sashimi, Crashes game Level 11 Yam, Level 7 Onion, Level 17 Strawberry, Level 17 Grapes, Level 9 Strawberry

One time, I got eight of the Sashimis from one weed with a strawberry on its left; however, I can't seem to replicate those results.

All in all, it works, but I remembered that we still need 100 wood for the barn, for the wolf, for the Greed Cave entrance. If you wanted to take those minutes saved by not sleeping until Summer 26th, get mining to 2, get enough iron to upgrade the Axe from Bianca, and then chop stumps or branches as necessary, you could still do the run without the Adventure Contest...and you'd need to do it on the JPN version.

I haven't got that last frame warp to work yet, but I plan on testing it in BizHawk. If figured out, it would trivialize all the combat in the run. I also read where someone said you could rarely start walking on water with your Wolf, but I haven't confirmed that either.

I'll try to get some instructions and maybe a video made for it tomorrow. If you want them now for a run, I can go ahead and write up a quick and dirty version. (Also, thanks again for finding this!)

Thank you for finding this! I mean, if we can figure this out then we can cut the whole sleeping part from the run! ...Now if I can just figure out how this thing works. I may have to take a while translating it to get a sure answer, but quick testing has showed me that something is going on with how it won't let you place items in a slot already occupied.

I'll be working on trying to get a hang of these two glitches. I'll keep you updated with what I find!

I think it was the fourth stage I always got stuck at, the Sky Castle place. I remember lots of water, spikes, and unforgiving respawn locations. All the bosses in general were pretty difficult and I definitely remember having to do lots of restarts at the third stage. (Always managed to get lost, too.) I picked up a retranslated copy about a year or two ago after I saw it run at a GDQ.

Maybe if I get a chance in the future I'll give it a shot, but for now I've got my hands full with routing! I'll still be watching, though!

Exactly what Timmiluvs said, don't try and take other people's runs if that's what my wording may have sounded like. I was just pointing out that there are existing runs elsewhere. Watch those and make a route, or just come up with one on your own, but either way the submitted run has to be run by you in order to request the game.

(Sorry about that!)

Ooh, Magical Pop'n! ...And I'm a week late. I guess that's fine, considering I never could win that game. There were some quite nice graphics in that hidden gem, maybe I should do some art for it sometime... Anywho, Link to the Past ought to be an interesting watch. I'll see if I can catch one of the runs if I have the time.

Keep up the great work, runners! I enjoy seeing these results, even if I don't catch the runs!

I've searched, and there doesn't seem to be on the site: https://www.speedrun.com/dizzy

Not a one for The Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy or Fantastic Dizzy (EU and Australia name). There's one for Fantasy World Dizzy, but it's an earlier game, (and not NES,) from what I gather. Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantastic_Dizzy

...I guess make a category for it? There seems to already be existing runs/ TASes on Youtube for it.

I figure most speedrunning of WoW in general belongs to the Ironman Champion boards, and I know they've done some real-time related runs as well, but if anyone does decide to do it in real time here, it could definitely become an issue. Fads in gaming pop up quite rapidly, and having played my fair share of WoW in the past, I know there's always been a major hype for Classic WoW. People do reckless things for brief fame, just look up any of the pop culture "challenges" within the last few years.

I think its completely valid to put up some disclaimers and warnings should this become a thing. I'd definitely vote for it. Part of me doesn't think many people would be willing to do a 24+ hour run (probably most would stick to in-game time), but this wouldn't be a bad precaution in the case it did. You never know, it could prevent someone from making an impulse decision or the site getting a bad rep for it.

Regardless, we can just hope people will be smart about it and that nothing will go wrong in the first place. (Heck, what would you do for 60 levels? Kite high-level mobs like you're going for Rhok'delar or something?)

Well, if you don't have a capture card the best you can do is emulation or recording with an actual camera. Some game boards don't accept emulation, while others do, but be sure to check as to whether they have any requirements as to which emulator you're allowed to use. You can do screen capture with OBS Studio or X-Split, it's what everyone seems to use for running. If you want to get away without having to spend anything, emulation is likely the best that can be done.

The capture cards for the original DS aren't too bad considering that you can also do GBA with them, but from experience they aren't an easy DIY (those tiny flex cables are a pain) and don't capture sound on their own. The 3DS card market is a rather wild one from what I've seen, so you'll just have to wait and pounce on any opportunities you see. The prices on those are just as high as buying a new 3DS and the makers seem to run out of stock or vanish rather quickly. I don't think there are any cards made for the 2DS, but they may be working on those.

I've started running games from the NDS era, and I know what you mean about losing time to menuing. Without being really fast with a stylus, losing time is incredibly easy in the games I've been practicing. (This is excluding the fact that one of them is likely going to take 7+ hours to run.)

C64 to N64 is a pretty wide range, but I'm trying to think of the games from my childhood that would match your requirements. I was almost exclusively a Nintendo player when I was real young but most of the games that come to mind are pretty popular, so I'll just do the more obscure ones.

These are all from the NES era: Mendel Palace- I experimented with running this before and its only got a few runs. A very fun, (potentially frustrating,) and mostly forgotten puzzle-action game by GameFreak, the folks who later became famous for Pokemon. 20+ minutes long once you know the run. Sword Master- It's hard on your hands, but it can be rewarding. Pretty much explored already, though. Can be done in as short as six minutes. Adventures of Lolo 3: Less runners compared to the earlier ones, but takes a little more than an hour. I don't remember that much about the game, it's been forever.

If you want something 3D, there's always Quest 64. It's got a couple of runs and it's probably been explored, but I remember it as an interesting game. It's kind of long, though. I'd suggest Phantasy Star 1-4 (Sega systems) or the Ultima (NES and DOS) games, but I know there's a chunk of menuing given that they're RPGs and some of 'em are long.

You could also check out Zeilard, its a MS-DOS game made around the same time the NES was released, and its a rather impressive game considering that. Nice soundtrack, graphics, fluid gameplay, and it's not even on this site. I just play it every once in a while for fun, but I've considered running it. I don't know about the length as I haven't finished it yet, but I do know that it used to have some dedicated followers back in the day.

тема: Rune Factory 2

Hey there! After at least trying out my route with Rune Factory 1, I've been looking into putting one together for RF2 as well. (I'll be back to the first one soon, don't worry!)

I've managed to find a semi-reliable way to clear the first generation portion of the game in what I estimate to be somewhat less than three hours, and I've managed to work in most of the requirements early for the second generation. Now that I'm there, progress has slowed down exponentially.

I've tried to route a way that doesn't need to expand or ever enter the school, but I'm running into quite a wall trying to manage by just using store-bought weaponry and the minimum level tools. The route so far is glitchless (given that I don't know of any for this game,) but it makes significant use of exploits. I think the minimum time the game can be run in is going to be somewhere between six to seven hours at full capacity.

I currently have a rough, unrefined guide made that covers a large portion of 1st gen and at least the base information for the 2nd, and I'll put it up if anyone's interested in seeing it or helping to work on it. (I can also make some early videos of the run if anyone would like to see those as well.) I'd love to hear any suggestions you might have!

Alright, so I've done some testing results tell me that I won't be getting anywhere with changing the equipment purchased during the run. The skim amount of money provided by selling off the lumber from the adventure contest can be a lot, but the amount gained is slim. I briefly considered trying to upgrade the watering can once for the large damage boost the charge level provides, but one has to reach at least mining level 2 to even find Iron. That on its own takes too much time.

I'll continue to try and see if either of these methods produce anything of value, but I think using the Wolf for the damage output is the only one that works speed-wise. (A hit from the wolf is just a bit lower than that of the watering can and it's speed results in a higher damage per second.)

I'll update the guide with this information when I get the chance.

(Putting this back up here because of the rollback.)

Hey all! Just wanted to let you know that I posted my route notes and running guide for anyone to use. It is quite extensive, so I imagine anyone wanting to or currently running the game might be able to find something of use in it.

My current run of it is up on Twitch and has a great many mistakes in it, so you can use that for comparison, I guess. (I'm still not used to running it on a original NDS.) I'll be experimenting with changes to some areas of it, mostly around involving which equipment is purchased.

If you see anything about it that you would suggest changing, feel free to comment on it. In the meantime, I'm off to work on Rune Factory 2 for a while. (If anyone's interested, I can put up my incomplete notes for it as well.)
