Impending Release & Legacy Runs

Greetings! First thing first, I would like to apologize for my lack of activity and moderation throughout most of this year. TL;DR - life stuff, covid, etc. and so on.

Second of all, the official "1.0" release of My Summer Car is nearing closer and closer, so I would like to ask a very important question regarding this.

What should we do with the Early-Access runs?

There are two main options of course:

  1. We leave them there, add them to the shuffled away categories, and open up new categories specifically for after release.

  2. We remove the categories and start the leaderboard anew*, allowing everybody to submit runs on equal footing.

  • runs new enough to not be affected by changes(positive or negative) made by the 1.0 release version, would be allowed to be re-submitted.

In the case of option number two, I also anticipate that people will be suggesting new categories. (For example, Story%, Rally% , etc.). Of course, this comes with limitations. For example, the Mikropekka games, which I believe would be much better placed in the "Sub-Games" section.

I wish to hear your opinions and input on this topic, and I would like to wish you a happy new year.

My opinion. Following the full release, all older runs pre-1.0 be archived and any runners interested in putting in a new time can attempt a new run. There aren't many of us in the current build that are doing speedrun attempts, so it shouldnt be too detrimental to have all the run times reset.

A few things I would like to suggest:

  1. Remove the Full Assembly% category from before. The requirements for it mean we have to install the plates on the car to complete the run. In order to get these, you must pass the inspection, so we can just merge it all into one Inspection% category.

  2. Change the finish of Inspection% to when you are given the plates, not when you view the paperwork. If you can only receive the plates from Lindell's shop if the inspection passes, then there's no need to view the paperwork to make sure you passed. If he gives you plates, you're done.

Available run categories:

DTFI - Complete when you drive to the first intersection in the Satsuma under its own power Inspection% - Complete the Inspection. Run is done when you get your plates at Lindell Rally% - Complete when you view the paperwork at the end of day 2 Junior rally. That way we can view how fast your rally run went Story% - Complete when you pick up the final phone call from Suski before the credits start to roll

I'm opposed to the idea of an Any% category because that implies a 100% run is possible, but I don't know what that would even entail in this game.

Hello ello. Thanks Epsy for giving this some attention, but no need to apologise, its pretty niche stuff.

I would second ShinMaksaki on all of this. Maybe have Rally win and Rally complete as seperate categories? They are pretty different runs and having a singular would negate going for a win as it essentially slows you down (parc ferme etc.) Pretty bias obviously but going for a win is a cool thing and offers a unique run experience. If single category maybe the rule could be that you have to win? but that seems quite harsh.

Also maybe GT% could be a thing? Having the same prerequisite as the Steam achievement? Idk. Just ideas and opinions, I'll leave it in your far more capable hands.
