Customized vehicle runs legal or no?

Hi mods, recently this run has been approved: https://www.speedrun.com/BeamNG.drive/run/y95vjr2z

Obviously this is a customized vehicle. 30+ psi turbo, insanely sized wheels. Can we PLEASE get a clarification on whether or not these kind of runs are allowed or not?

To what extent is car part modification allowed? Can we even add modded parts? because there is ABSOLUTELY NO VANILLA TURBO AS POWERFUL AS THAT ONE !!!!!!!

I won't speak for the other moderators, but I'm alright with customized vehicles as long as they only use the provided in-game vanilla modifications for that specific vehicle. Mods introduce a degree of customizability/variation that I believe would prove hard to keep it fair from run to run.

IMO allowing mods or adding a modding category is just an absolute Pandora's Box of variations that we'd have to keep in mind when verifying runs, to keep it fair for everyone.

Prior to this discussion, I've made the vanilla setup on one of my old runs known so it could be replicated by someone wishing to attempt the run with the same exact vehicle setup. But that system and others like it if implemented are going to be based in honesty at the end of the day. Since who's to say that the setup a runner provided is even the one they used for the speedrun?

Whoever else wants to weigh in feel free to do so.

This is unfair it should be a different category if its custom. Rules say default Beam vehicles. Thats not a custom car without a shell....

I think it should be Custom parts/change stock parts: no Tune(in the tuning menu): ok as long as no parts are changed This would make it fairer And also it should be noted in the description on a run if it is made with a custom tuning Thats my opinion atleast

I believe we need to implement a rule stating that either vanilla mods are acceptable or that none are allowed period. It need to be directly stated in the rules.

oh hey it's my run. sorry for the drama, hah. I'm open to categorizing into a modified and non modified category. I had seen a post clarifying that custom setups were allowed prior to posting that. Its all vanilla of course.

Personally I only got into running beam ng for the tuning aspect, I'd like to see what others can do with all of the options we are given.

I understand that it's very hard to judge whether or not mods are being used, but I think that the rules should still prohibit mods just to keep things fair and properly competitive. Otherwise you can just gap any time with enough grip and horsepower trough the use of mods. The vanilla content itself does a good job of punishing supernatural performance with engine wear and such. I think it's pretty standard to ban mods from speedrunning. It may be hard to judge, but it can be done with the help of the community to pick out cheaty runs and provide evidence.

Custom configs can still be used. Perhaps make it so that the used configuration file must also be posted together with the video so that it's easier to identify inconsistencies, while further increasing the competitiveness.

@ax53 It's hard to talk when we have two things that use the same term, but nobody on the "pro-config" side is saying that modding the game is what we want, just that we want to use the ingame options to make new configs.

I don't think they are that hard to distinguish from each other. Modding: installing unofficial content to the game Config: using vanilla content in a custom configuration

Like I said, I'm also not against custom configurations. But the run posted by OP seems to be using a modded game.

Why do you think that? That PSI seems about right for a stage 3 turbo tuned up to max.
