Useful Clips and Glitches.

I thought we should have a thread for clips and other things that help throughout the run.

UPDATED STRAT: http://www.speedrun.com/Rise_of_the_Tomb_Raider/thread/g4doe/

DISREGARD BELOW. THIS SKIP CAN NOW BE SKIPPED.

So far I've only found one, skips the entire first trebuchet section, but loads when you hit the next trigger.

So Trebuchet Skip:

Props to xShAdOwYxMiSt for finding the out of bounds that lead to this skip. Saves about 30-40 seconds.

Here's the original OoB if anyone else wants to look into it:

i know this thread is for useful glitches but i'm posting this here now just in case it does lead anywhere. i currently have no time to test it

Very nice. I agree, this is a good idea to open a thread, so we can post all our glitches.

Hey guys, up 'til now I've only been posting on the relevant thread on SDA, but since I see some activity here I thought I'd post here as well.

First, I discovered two skips for the prison escape sequence which are shown in this video:

The two skips together save about 2 minutes. Some notes: ¤ It doesn't seem possible to stay OOB further than I did since you miss some required load triggers (an area later won't load). ¤ This unfortunately skips the assault rifle. If you want to get the rifle, it's possible to cut the OOB early. You just need to drop in front of the door after the electric water puzzle, then open it. This does cost an extra 30 secs or so.

Now, I also tried to skip the first gate instead instead of opening it. And, well, I did:

But I don't like this skip. I can't seem to find a consistent setup and I'm suspecting there's an element of RNG. But, if anyone wants to try maybe they can find something.

This next OOB, Elajjaz has been using it in his speedruns. I discovered a new way to start this OOB which is much easier (the rest of the OOB is shown for completion's sake, and because I'm not sure if anyone uploaded it yet):

Alright, that's what I have for now. I'll be doing some more testing later and post if I find anything.

EDIT: some more discoveries. The first one doesn't seem useful ATM but is very interesting nonetheless.

Thanks to Corwey, skip the 1st half of the Prophete's Blessing, you don't need to make the truck fall anymore 360 only for now, needs door clipping to pass through the barricade.

Hey guys, I've got a run pending that includes the majority of the skips found so you can check that out. also, looks like the X360 and XBO are going to be different categories unless we can find another method for clipping doors on XBO. Theoretically, the X360 version is faster, but I dont know what loading is like or where you can skip cutscenes on the 360.

A note for new glitch finders that are looking for ideas and may not be aware, check out the glitches from TR2013. This game is on the same engine, so theoretically all of that tech should still be possible.

I haven't noticed any differences concerning loadings or cutscenes skips between the 2 versions. Have you XBO runners ever had a cutscene bug ? Sometimes I can't pass it when I get to the prison, so I have to quit and reload, I think it's faster. Concerning door clips, I can't imagine that nothing will be found.

We had a short talk with Eydas about skipping that Research Base area, I found that yesterday. More details in comments.

EDIT: I made some tests and I realized getting the 2nd OoB (after the wooden bridge) was tricky 1/2 runs in a really weird way so I found that other spot, if it can help.

Let me know if it's useful on XBO.

Good find! yeah it's possible on XBO but REALLY weird as there are 2 objects you have to clip at the same time. There's the door, then the wall/second door behind the door. Just make sure you do a full 180 rotation to clip everything, but I'm adding it to my runs now!

EDIT - That saves 30 seconds

I was sent a video via twitter. This has some potential. hopefully we can find 2 things, a use for it here (possibly skip fire arrows actually) and find it elsewhere. I'm looking into it now, but Happy Hunting everyone.

EDIT: confirmed this can skip Fire Arrows and Shotgun based on location you warp to. need to test it in campaign first though.

So after testing this in the main game, I can confirm this glitch just gives you super sonic speeds and actually wraps you around the map, and it's where you stop that determines where you end up. The only thing I can see that actually stops you is if you grab a ledge or happen to jump on solid ground. I still cant figure out a way to make it consistent though, but if you manage to get into the shotgun area, go back into the water, then turn around again and the cutscene will play. AKA fire arrow skip!

So far it looks like if you skip BOTH fire arrows and shotgun, the game softlocks, but not until the end of the Acropolis! like a LONG way up

Here's the Fire Arrow Skip

I've tried getting that glitch for like one hour and a half but she's never clipped that cliff... Sadly it seems that it doesn't work on X360. Nice finding anyways, that supersonic stuff is crazy. ^^

Btw for those who are fed up with the death floor at the end of the Corela skip, I've found a way to avoid it using another way to reach firecamp. It might cost a very few seconds but it's worth it, safety is priceless at that point of the run. ;)

Don't know if that works on XBO yet, let us know.

United States

ugh, that final clip as far as I can tell is not possible on XBO :( some notes on it for those that want to test things though. Using time stamps in Blue's vid, at 0:50 you HAVE to stand there, even on XBO, it reloads part of the area and makes it solid. The jump at 1:05 goes over a gap that you can fall to your death, just jump as soon as you make it to the wall and the gap is very easy to jump over, no risk at all.

and too bad the other doesnt work on X360. but my theory is the loading trigger is glitched out, and those are different on each console. I wonder how PC will handle things.

United States

found this in the patch 3 notes. anyone know what it is about?

"Prevented the player from getting out of world in the Soviet Installation near a rope barrier."

NOTE: all current speed run stuff still works, including the Copper Mill OoB that no one uses

Finland

Findlestick found an airwalk from this game. From the looks of it, this needs a checkpoint that starts from Lara hanging on a ledge. Retrying and trying to "let go" during loading time can let Lara detach from the ledge, but she remains immune to gravity.

hmm, somehow i couldnt reproduce that on PC and the newest patch. Can someone confirm if this works on PC?

Florida, USA

Holy Shit! It's actually legit!!

Can confirm 110% this works on Xbox One Console. I'm astounded this hasn't been found until now.

It's not even that difficult of a trick and it blows open the mountain peak entirely within the first minute of character control. This is a serious find.

Would upload video but video recorder isn't setup so I just took some pics from my phone but I was messing around with this for a half hour.

Considering there isn't one glitch/trick that Xbox One can do that PC seemingly can't do the same if not better I feel pretty assured this is completely doable on PC as well.

Here are my findings:

To do this

  1. Start game as normal
  2. Once you hit the slippery slope grab onto the ledge and the game will autosave.
  3. Reload checkpoint (it doesn't matter how fast or slow this is done just don't move from that ledge)
  4. While reloading checkpoint screen is displayed spam the roll button to the left and preferably slightly down (like about 8 o'clock)
  5. This has about a 15% success rate with me it seems reliant on what frame after loading back the roll button executes. If you fail it really is nearly inconsequential too. The full process of dying, reloading checkpoint, and trying again takes about 8 seconds on Xbox One maybe less.
  6. If it works you will begin SkyRolling in midair to the left.

Once the gltich has successfully been performed from here you can literally SkyRoll in any direction semi-indefinitely provided its not an immediate death plane. If you stop rolling for any reason like say you jump out of the roll or just stand still you will promptly fall and DIE. YOU MUST NOT STOP ROLLING.

While SkyRolling you will gradually lose height and descend regardless of what you do meaning YOUR TIME SKYROLLING IS FINITE. This isn't easily perceptible in the video posted above but if you look closely you can see that Lara is indeed getting lower and lower as she rolls. If I had to take a guess it is due to the slight delay between rolls and during this brief pause before the next roll initiates the game lowers your height a bit. In a sense this somewhat reminds of the Metroid Prime "Aether" out of bounds glitches.

Back to implementation!

From here there is seemingly two ways to go

7a. Roll to the left 3 times and then A-X pump onto the rock formation shown @ 13 seconds. (You can roll twice and jump but doing 3 rolls seems more consistent to me)

or...

[ 7b? (NOT CURRENTLY POSSIBLE BUT POTENTIALLY PLAUSIBLE NECESSITATES EXPERIMENTATION) Ignore the rock formation. Find a way to SkyRoll onto a physical mountain side avoiding death planes by Sky-Rolling through the air such as @1:14 to scale the mountain. I tried this is a couple times and the areas near inbound sections are littered with insta-kill planes and by the time I've gone around the mountains I've lost too much height to scale anything. This seems plausible and perhaps there is a route for it but for now it seems far-fetched. ]

  1. Climb to the top of this rock formation. You can jump back in bounds before Jonah on the inbounds snow path but doing so and trying to walk up will initiate the falling slippery slope grab the ledge cutscene again and will glitch the game out really bad. This is not desirable. At this point in time it seems you must make the somewhat challenging jump @23 seconds in. Falling short and succumbing to the slope will push you back to the ledge forcing a reload checkpoint...which is also not desirable. The best way to continue on is to do walk up the last walkable point of the rock formation then do a normal jump towards the top of the scalable rock and A-X pump on top of it as shown from @23-25 seconds.

  2. Once you're at the second rock formation you are practically home free you just have to get to the top and jump back in bounds. There are some dangerous slippery slopes to the right side of the rock formation and towards the bottom (Not the scariest slippery slopes but enough to scare you pretty bad). The easiest way I saw to scale this rock was to A-X pump up the left side and wiggle a bit towards the top. You don't want to go to far left or right as both will lead to slippery slopes of demise but there is a decently sized middle area.

  3. Once you're at the top of the 2nd rock formation jump back in bounds. Jonah should now be behind you on the path and not moving since he hasn't received the trigger to move up towards the ice wall to catch you. From here the sky is the limit

If you continue on through the cave with the flare and try to play the game as normal your new sense of freedom won't last long. Once you reach the point where the snow blows in your face at the end of the cave Jonah will be prompted to continue on to catch up to you as normal and the game will continue all the same it seems. So this is really isn't wanted. Doing this trick takes much longer then just scaling the ice wall after all.

The reason why this glitch is extremely valuable is because everywhere from @44-50 in the above video there are no invisible walls keeping you from going out of bounds. Nope nada...not a one. It appears the game developers didn't place IWs here since once Jonah catches you from the Ice wall (allowing you go through this section normally) you are inhibited from jumping, rolling, or practically doing anything besides walking forwards but this glitch avoids the trigger for this to happen. You can literally jump out of bounds anywhere! Even in the cave! From here you can climb the mountain or other things. There is no doubt that this could skip most of Mountain Peak provided the OOB trick linked up with the Skywalking route taken on PC that jumps back in at a later cutscene. From my time messing around out of bounds using this trick I didn't hit one death plane either it doesn't seem like there are many.

I'll do some more experimentation later and maybe make a video about it provided I have time. But I'm 100% this is going to start a new beginning route change for Console Glitched. Skywalking on PC will probably be faster for that system though unless better optimization (and consistency) for this Skyrolling is found which at this point in time is still entirely possible. Exciting stuff!

Edit: Also note! Since this is all new no one knows if this is exclusively possible to only this ledge or if this is possible with all ledges that have autosave binded to them. If the latter is true this game is even more broken then I originally thought and I already thought it was pretty broken lol

For the record: This is very doable on PC. Easiest way seems to be to bind roll to your scroll wheel, exit the game and then click "continue" while scrolling until the game loads.

Other known places this bug exists: Syria (just before you shoot the 2 guys after the dome collapses), Kitesh (final climb before the death run).

Leemy found a skip of the whole death run using this: Unfortunately you don't get your bow back from the action sequence where you shoot the deathless that's holding your leg which makes the boss take much longer.

Binding C to mousewheel down was my next idea. i just didnt come around to test it yet. I think i might have had problems with this because i was running at a very high framerate, so hitting a specific set of frames is pretty hard ^^

New Patch Problem with Load Remover

PC runners, at the time being, the best idea would be to downpatch the game to b1026, as load remover and autosplitter don't work on the newest patch. Runs that don't use load remover will not be manually re-timed. You can easily do that in Steam Options by right clicking on the game in the Steam L
