Seeing as most everyone was for this change, the Gauntlet category will now accept runs performed on an unmodded version of the game. Using the mods is still allowed, with the Fogbound Lagoon stage now being optional - allowed, but not required.

Vanilla runs still submit their IGT from the results screen, unless they went to the bazaar or any other timer stopping areas, in which case the real time of the run will be used.

For now, vanilla runs must also show their logbook at the end to confirm that a completed savefile was used. This rule is subject to change in the future but in the interest of starting to accept vanilla runs as soon as possible, this is the rule for now.

We recently made a change to the character variable that makes it so your runs as each character show up on the leaderboard, as opposed to only the fastest time being shown.

While this works as intended for the solo categories, co-op has always had the issue of people not knowing what character to select for their submission. While previously it could be ignored, since only the fastest time would show up anyway, that is no longer the case. Speedrun.com only allows for variables to be specified per category, not per sub-category which is how we have the Solo/Co-Op split set up, until that is changed the variable is essentially all or nothing.

Please use the 'Multiple' option when submitting any co-op runs or any multi-char runs such as All Characters or 100%.

Motivated by a recent forum post and then a discussion in the speedrunning discord server, we've decided to split Any% by game version. This change is currently uncertain, the categories may get changed or reduced to variables (similar to how characters now are) in the future.

All existing runs are assumed to be 1.0. Though there have been a few runs submitted on later patches, it is too much manual labour for the moderation team to go through them all and edit. If you have a current patch run on the 1.0 board, feel free to edit it and it will be re-verified accordingly.

At the time of writing 1.2.4.1 is the most recent patch and will be the only patch verified, however any older runs with the new commencement map will be grandfathered in.

To accommodate the growing racing community, a set of new categories has been added. The Gauntlet categories use the racing mod and aim to follow their rulesets where possible while still making the speedrun fun to play.

Due to how the mod works currently, seeding runs can't be fully verified. We trust runners will choose a random seed they have not previously played for their runs. With this in mind, expect the leaderboards to potentially be wiped once this problem is solved on the mod's side.

Timing for the Celestial Ending category will now end on the results screen popping up, rather than on the character disappearing. This change is made to follow along with the timing rules of the All Hidden Realms categories, as well as the fact that the autosplitter now supports splitting at the results screen, making timing runs accurately easier.

We're currently looking into ways to retime existing runs.

A category extensions board has been approved and can be found over at https://www.speedrun.com/ror2ce

A handful of misc categories from the main board have been moved over there, as well as a few new ones being added. Feel free to suggest any others through the community discord.

In recent weeks, a once less used strategy known as 'pod strats' has become all the rage, with as many as two runners attempting the strat!

According to reports, the strategy involves resetting the game until players find 'lunar pods' on stage one. This allows players to get the item 'Focused Convergence' earlier in the run than usual, and thus save time on the first stage.
