In the level select, if you hold C+Z+B and press direction on the d-pad or A, you can do some things that are really useful for practice if you have no completed file Up/Down - Makes your pile bigger/smaller Left/Right - Removes one tier of completion/completes the next tier A - Moves to the next tier (or to the first one if you're at the top) this, however does not complete the tier.
I believe this should be banned from runs (maybe allow it in all missions?) and if any of them should be allowed, its the A-button one.
Can you expand on the nature of this secret? (doubt it's a glitch, at most it's probably a debug code) Does it allow you to skip to the last level, or skip a significant portion of the game? If so, a new category, ie. Cheat% or similar, may be justified, otherwise Any% will just come down to using this cheat to skip to the last level, and then playing that and thus I think Any% should exclude stuff like this. Otherwise running such a category would be incredibly boring. I'm not sure what people would think about allowing it for All Missions, but I'll think about it.
I've been thinking about it, and I feel like we should made to new categories, Any% (Cheats) and All Missions (Cheats) or something along those lines. All Missions (Cheats) wouldn't require collecting items which would make it faster and more fun. Any% (Cheats) would be a lot faster but it would be a similar run to Cheat% for Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom. You could add a variable to the leader boards also that separates Cheats from Cheatless by having a split category like the categories on the LEGO Star Wars leaderboards which I am mod of http://www.speedrun.com/lsw you can see what it would be like, I made it so Solo and Co-Op are separate.
I have implemented something similar. What do you think?
I think it's good.
Ok :) I'm not sure how to exclude variables for a specific category, as I doubt the cheat, or the co-op parameter, is present on the PC version. If I remember correctly, all levels are unlocked from the start. This is the reason why I haven't made an Any% category for PC. I'll do some testing with this glitch soon, and I'll see how fast an Any% run with cheats is.
I got like a 2x:xx in Any%, will highlight and upload later, it was a terrible run though
I'm watching the VoD of that now. I was going to propose a route, but funnily enough your route is identical to my one, what a coincidence lol. I don't have time to watch the All Missions run in full yet, but I plan to watch to it.
Edit: I'll add the route to "Guides".
The All Missions run had a good start then the last hour was complete and utter shit
Still not as bad mine at least OpieOP 3:34 with skipped levels and like 15+ deaths on Hare Devil Rabbit alone Kappa
By the way, I've posted the guide.
Can someone review the guide and confirm that the route is fine? I will at the week-end, but it's not really possible for me to do testing right now. The guide is here: http://www.speedrun.com/rgh/guide/9ekxk . My specific points of concern are indicated with asterisks. Note that it's pretty much only a draft at the moment.
I believe you don't actually need to do "Keep on piling" to get boost, I'm not 100% sure about this though but I think you always have boost in all levels that are in the second tier or higher.
EDIT: Also, if I remeber correctly, your pile goes back to what it's supposed to be at when you leave the level select or enter a level, thus making the pile go up to 23000 at the first visit unnecessary IF we need to do the level to get boost.
I will have some free time tomorrow, and I'll look more into the route, and test if it is correct. I too, am unsure, lol.
You need to beat the tier 1 level thing in order to get boost I tried it my first run.
Did a run but LiveSplit crashed so I don't know whether it was a WR or not. Even if it was, I wasn't recording. OpieOP
I'll do more testing regarding travelling through the hub today.
Just did a run and got 21:08, without recording it. It was pretty sloppy, and I died twice. I'll look more into the route now, and finalise it now.
Meanwhile I'm sitting here in Dolphin, trying to find skips in "Keep on Piling". Sadly, the only thing I've found is a really hard trick and the effect it gives you is close to impossible to control, even with savestates and frame advance. It MIGHT be useful for a TAS but only for IL, since you would most likely skip the boost if you somehow get where you want. I'll be able to play on console next week, so hopefully I'll do some any% (with cheats) and IL runs then
A TAS should be quite interesting. I thought that this game was pretty devoid of glitches, but I've been proved wrong. I'm estimating an optimal time for Any%, at the moment, to lie at around 17:xx to 18:30, considering I died twice, didn't do the Shop skip, and buggered up a few smaller parts, and a TAS would probably be faster. I can't see any reasonable way to skip the boost, considering the jumps closer to the end of the last level, although I guess it ¤could¤ be possible as part of a TAS.
I did some testing, and I'll finalise my guide accordingly. I'm pretty sure the construction pipe is the fastest way to get to the last level in any%, although not by much, and I'm unsure if having to advance a tier nulls this time save, with the Metro entrance possibly coming into play with All Missions and 100%. (the fastest way to get to any level)
