Rules on pick-ups

Hey! Why aren't there any rules on pick-ups? I feel like that for the individual level leaderboards, pick-ups should be off, as the category seems more like a time trial mode. Say someone gets two batteries in one lap, they're much more likely to get the fastest lap than someone who gets none, which makes it very RNG-heavy. On the other hand, all full runs I've seen so far played with pick-ups on. The rules don't state that being necessary. So does that mean you're allowed to play without pick-ups as well? That might be easier to optimise.

Well since the rules are so open it doesn't matter if pick-ups are on or off. But as you said with batteries some races are much faster done then without

It seems like no IL records have been set yet. How about we change it to require pick-ups off?

Hungary

So could i submit a time for any% with pick ups off?

Bavaria, Germany

Well I would guess yes and I would change it but I'm not a mod so sorry

I will change it, as it seems logical for IL. For any% you can submit it, if it would be too much difference I can change it to 2 different categories if that is necessary.

After Andor's no pickup run, great run btw, I want to know the opinion of you guys. Whether to open a new catogery, so to split it up into 2 categories (with and without pickups). Or just leave it like this, so you can run the game to your preference.

Assuming that no pickups is actually faster, I don't see why a separate category would be needed. It's like running a game on a slightly slower difficulty, which is completely your choice.

Maybe as a subcategory.

I agree with Ewil. We could add it as an extra variable, so people who want to keep running with pick-ups on can do so, and have it be shown. Just like you could play on the N64 version, if you wanted to.

Hungary

Yea just keep the one category rule, maybe we could open categories for one cup only, that way you could do less time expensive runs.

Shall we add pickups and difficulty as extra variables? I think it could be nice, as the time ran with pick-ups can become of importance again, and people can choose to play on Simulation (or Console or Junior RC, I suppose, but I don't see why you would do that, except just for the sake of it). The only issue I see is that there aren't yet too many active runners, but that might change. And by default, the leaderboards will still show the fastest time of every runner, regardless of picks and difficulty settings.

I will have a look how to add these variables. The pickups category can be a miscellaneous one in my opinion. As for difficulty i find it as variable okay.

I don't think it would be great for pickups to be a separate category, as that way, the main All cups leaderboard will only have two runs in at present. Thanks for adding the difficulty variable, though. :) Edit: Four, actually. Still, I think it'd be nice to keep the old ones in. What I hadn't yet realised is that the variables might cause clutter. Especially now that nobody has got a run using anything other than Arcade, I suppose it might look a bit weird. But honestly, there's only one run that's got a console that isn't PC, too. :P As soon as I have time and am at my desktop (my laptop isn't powerful enough for playing and recording at the same time, it seems), I'll attempt a run, on Simulation, because that's more fun to me. :)
