REmaster Patch 1.01 Text Change

Alright, so we got hit with a patch that has rendered DS mute (for now, until the mod has been altered to match the new .exe). We also got Traditional and Simplified Chinese Text. Can confirm from a glance that Traditional (only text I've tried so far) is considerably faster than Japanese text. So let's start the dialog - thoughts?

My thoughts are: I assume the autosplitter doesn't work anymore?

Autosplitter works just fine, I did a run on stream without any timer faults.

@DJNattie That suggesting we add CHN to the leaderboards, or am I missing the meaning? I don't see any problem with it, personally.

I'm glad the Autosplitter still works, but no DS? Boo, gross.

Time to run the game in Chinese then. PogChamp

Autosplitter is linked to items so language won't affect that. I'm suggesting the opposite if Chinese is faster than time for some new rekkys boiz

Gotcha, fair enough. I'm down with that too, personally.

"Autosplitter is linked to items so language won't affect that."

That has nothing to do with it. When an update comes around, the base address can change. It's usually common. It's why things like the door skip and randomizer broke. I've had to update RE7's autosplitter several times because of updates. The values of what I'm looking for didn't change, just the base address that the splitter can find the status of those items/inventory values.

I'm actually really surprised it didn't break, but I am happy to see it didn't :)

Hello friends and fellow runners.

I’ve seen the vod where @iSeeDeadKittens runs the game in traditional Chinese text. From a glance the text is definitely faster imo. Maybe this can be negated by adding a separate category and have the other catagories with japinese text in the rules. I feel that if Chinese text is accepted going forward all the hard work we or myself personally have put in would feel like a waste, although my console has not updated the game yet. But I’m happy with the outcome whatever it should be. Just adding my thoughts.

I think Bashy more clearly explained what I was trying to say in my previous posts, soooo...yea, that's what I was going for.

I don't think it disrespects the other runs, to be honest. I think there's enough categories. Maybe a filter. But we didn't create a new category when 120 FPS was discovered - which saved quite a bit of time off runs.

I think making categories based off of different languages is a bit egregious, especially when this is available to most, if not all of us, which keeps the playing field level for everyone.

This isn't a different version. This is merely changing a different setting.

And as a speedrunner, any extra time save I can get just by changing something so simple sounds golden to me. PogChamp This game doesn't need separation like that. It would only create more clutter on an already stacked leaderboard.

These are just my thoughts on it. Kinda sucks that the runners who worked hard for their times and want to keep grinding have to re-do it with this, but that's the name of the game here. We find optimizations, and we use them to get the best time possible.

I personally feel we should not be segregating the leaderboards into JPN/CHN - this is, as was mentioned earlier, like the 60FPS to 120FPS update to the run meta.

My biggest worry is that if doorskip is not resolved, we will have to lose a set of leaderboards, unless the doorskip runners are happy to both run the slower text, and use an unpatched .exe of the game. Myself personally, although I'm not a run submitter, prefer to run the game with doorskips, and I don't like losing that option.

I believe this isn't more of a waste of time for all the runners who have given their all to put great times up on the board, but more of an opportunity to go back and optimise your runs if you so choose to.

I am strongly against new boards for Chinese. I grabbed a few items using traditional Chinese and it definitely feels faster.

To make less of a meme post than my first two I believe a filter is definitely the best option. I don't think separating the two is a good idea and if CHN text is allowed (which it should be because Japanese/120FPS was allowed and that's what's faster). Merging into a board with all language filters with even those who want to run EN so if people did want to see the best times in JPN language etc. they can and it still goes along with the fastest known method. It's a strange timing and Capcom always does random shit like this but it should be treated in the same sense of this being a "Current Patch" speedrun.

Edit: Also we are speedrunners, hard efforts never get forgotten and unless you intend on quitting those efforts go beyond and to even furthering the game you love running.

I don't see a point in doing anything except improving ones times. HD Remaster is not a meme speed game where all these little variations on the boards need to happen.

put a filter to language seems appropriate. FF8 board does that for the PC version and looks good. Or dont do nothing and let people use the patch.

My personal opinion is, adding another category (or anything) for chinese text would be silly. There's no separation for 120fps / 60fps, so what sense does it make to separate a negligible difference?

The update forced a bunch of memory addresses to different values, so all that needs to be done is find the doorskip value and change it in whatever program is currently used to force doorskip.

(Edit: Does not appear to be on console? At least, neither of my PS4 versions received an update, both still 1.00 and without Chinese language options)

Agreed with Nattie and Pess, this is more of a reason to go back and optimise runs that require optimising anyway. I may be wrong, but I believe Traditional Chinese is fastest at the moment, will need to run more unless someone better has already confirmed this.

The meta was always JPN, we changed 60FPS to 120FPS. This should be the new norm if you want to run the game at its "fastest".

This isn't like RE3 where localisation issues force runners to play different copies - we are all running the same copies with the same patches offered to everyone, even playing field.

My only huge concern still lies with doorskip support for the new patch. Would love to start running Trad. CHN with doorskips.
