Tips for newbie :)

Hi guys I’m new to speed running, been playing the original RE’s since they’ve been practically released but just started speedrunning this past week(best time is 1:37 w/Jill new game+, only have tried it 2x so far and figured rocket launcher is best way to learn). But my question is mostly about settings, I play on XB1(do own a PS4 and would consider switching to it if it’s a better console forREmake & Zero) and would like to know how I should change the settings, I’ve seen everywhere change the language to Japanese but besides that have no idea what else to improve my time. Do I use arrange or original, do I use the dpad or analog stick, just learned about stair skating yesterday & been practicing that but any tips on what I should do would be greatly appreciated! Btw sorry if there was a thread with this already, I looked and didn’t see anything also if anyone can send link for discordthat would be amazing! Thank you guys and thanks for having me :)

I'd recommend using the arranged controller scheme as it allows for the best of both settings. The analog stick allows for the new movement whilst the d-pad can be used for the classic tank controls. Switching between both on the fly takes a bit of practice but once you're used to it you'll be able to utilise both for several situations (analog movement for dodging enemies or stair skating with the d-pad, for example). The language can be changed in the options alongside the controls.

I don't think there is much of a difference between PS4/XB1 to warrant switching over, but I haven't played the console version in a while so I can't say much else. My advice is to just keep doing runs, practicing sections you struggle with and analysing and comparing your runs to see where you can improve on. Best of luck and welcome!

One quick thing, do you have to use Arrange? Cause I’m god awful at using them lol it does seem like you move slightly quicker with them tho that’s why I think speed runners use it. I was getting pretty good at dodging Zombies with original now I gotta learn all over again lol

Arrange is pretty crucial to it, yea. The quick turning/pivoting will help a lot with maneuvering and dodges.

It'll actually make most of the dodges easier as you can be a little closer to bait out the lunge/whatever and just pivot away. You'll get it, though. It definitely takes practice, but you'll get it!

How can I switch between the different controls without having to go to the menu every time I want to do it? I like the original control, but sometimes I think it's better to use the new controls, for a few seconds but I can not without entering the menu and doing it ...
