Why your splits/sum of best is inaccurate
Updated 4 years ago by FireGoesFast

have you ever been on a run where you saved 0.3 on one button and then lost it all on the next button? have you ever been confused about your sum of best being way better than your PB? don't worry, you are not the only one!

This has something to so with how the autosplitter works. it splits the tick you step on a button (unless it lags), this means you can save time on the current split if you hit the button as early as possible but you will lose time on the next button. you generally wont lose any time overall (depending on the circumstance) but this is where sum of best comes in

if you're new to speedrunning, a sum of best is an abbreviation of the sum of best segments. this takes all your best segment times and adds them to create a 'best possible time'. in Refunct however, the sum of best is basically pointless. if you hit a button really early and get a best segment, that will be added to your sum of best . in another run if you hit the same button really late, you have less distance to travel to the next button so you can gold it again. let me give you an example.

(numbers are just reference) Let's say you hit button 1 from the start and it takes 5 seconds to hit it as early as possible, then this is recorded as your best segment. then it might take another 5 seconds to hit button 2 which you dont gold. you reset and then hit button 1 on the side that button 2 is taking it 5.3 seconds to get to the button losing 0.3 to you sum of best but you then gold the next button by 0.3 because it will take you 4.7 seconds to get there.

Hopefully this clears up some confusion

heres a very rough guide on what time you can expect to get based on your PB

2:47.00 (3-4 seconds within your sum of best) 2:54.XX to sub 2:47.00 (5-6 seconds within your sum of best) low 3:XX.XX to 2:54.XX (7 seconds within your sum of best
