Also about my mag comment to clarify im talking about if there was a NG+ option as well. Cause if a NG+ and NG option were to be approved having a mag for NG+ would pretty much be the same as NG+ main category... Just in case anyone was confused as to what I was talking about. Even for NG though I just dont think its a good idea for it cause as was said above the mag is way stronger than the regular handguns and doesnt use handgun ammo. Whole point of handgun category too is for it to be more of a challenge as well and with mag youll just be one shotting everything haha.
I do see Handgun Only as an NG category, but I don't personally have any opposition to an NG+ variant. In an NG version, any of the handguns found in-game (no DLC or unlockables) should be fine to use, not just the base. If we have an NG+ variant, I'd suggest maybe doing it the way RE5 does their "One Weapon Only" categories: you pick the handgun you want to use, then you're stuck with that the whole run.
Magnum is really strong against several bosses in the game. I think that takes away from the challenge aspect of HG only. I think HG only shouldn't use the Magnum.
The way I see the HG only rules are
All normal game rules
Only the Lemi, 1911, and V61 are allowed. You can pick up other guns to sell but can't use them.
Must start from a fresh Ng save.
On Hardcore/VoS the laser is allowed against Urias since there isn't enough handgun ammo to kill him.
All DLC guns/unlockables are banned.
I'm not too sure about a NG+ for hg only though, because there is only one handgun that is unlockable if I remember correctly. I'm fully against anything that looks like a handgun but doesn't fire handgun bullets, like the rocket pistol.
Also, there is a part for the v61 that I believe is ng+, so that would be banned in Ng as well.
I agree with @deserteagle417 having only one maxed out hang gun outta the 3 for NG+. I think thatd be totally fair. Hopefully yall can make it happen.... Hahaha, keeping fingers crossed! Cause thats what I was gonna do anyway is just pick one and roll with it
@Jadusable2 when I refer to NG+ for this its not using the unlockables... Im talking about using the same Lemi, V61, or M1911 but just having them already maxed out, infinite ammo, and being able to have however many heals in your inventory so no duke stops and no pick ups like you would normally do in a NG+ run. This would work out good for hardcore or VoS runs which is what I'm wanting to run it with. Id personally only use one gun for my runs and think if there is an option for NG+ only having one handgun is fair and not being able to switch between 3. But yeah defintely not unlockables haha. As I said in previous comments if that was the case itd be the exact same as the main game NG+ category cause that run is literally rotating mainly between rocket pistol and stake haha. Wouldnt make any sense to have it that way for handgun only.
Infinite ammo kinda takes the challenge out of it but I like the idea of maxed out handguns for a Ng+ honestly.

That’s the whole point of NG+ 🤦🏼♀️😂 And wasnt it just said in the previous comments above that there’s not enough hand gun ammo for hardcore and VoS without laser in Chris section? That’s literally what I’m talking about is for VoS or hardcore runs lmao. If ya have unlimited ammo then no laser will need to be used

I’m done debating about it. I’m rooting for NG+ VoS handgun only. If we get it we get it and if we don’t we don’t. I’ll just continue to run NG+ Glitchless haha. Lord I feel like I’ve repeated myself a million times already. 🤦🏼♀️😂
At the moment, ppl are running cat's that are not official, and this thread was opened to let those ppl know that they are all part of the speedrun community, not just the ones that are running the usual main cat's. What i would like to see is, if we cant have an official leaderboard atm (for obvious reasons), can we get some extra channels on the discord for those cat's? 100% has its own channel for example and also is not one of the main cat's. That would be nice so ppl can discus such HG only strats, or No Duke strats. Cause when u want to run those, there are simply no guides available, cause 95% is all about the main cat's on the discord. @Moderators Thank u in advance
@MarandaScreams It's still suppose to be a challenge run though, unlimited ammo would take the challenge out of it, upgraded guns or not. Honestly I'm completely fine with no NG+ at all for HG only, I was just trying to come up with something for it.
Ive been running casual HG only no duke. Its more of a HG only feel. Of course on HC and VoS upgrades are needed.
Usually the goal is to have the same rules for all difficulties for cleaner boards and lack of confusion.
So HG only would probably be freedom to use duke and freedom to use laser for Chris for all difficulties.
One of the main enjoyments(for me any ways) of HG only is ammo routing. NG+ would eliminate this. Really shouldnt be used for Casual, however would make HC And VoS more true to HG only.
At the same time adding duke makes ammo routing more fun as with no duke you are stuck basically picking up every source. HG ammo and that to create HG ammo.
I feel like crap so if I understand worng please forgive me, but are you saying hg only shouldn't have duke in it? No duke is already going to be a thing if I remember right, so why add that to hg only? Hg literally only needs to be hg only, no other special rules outside of the laser for Chris on hc/vos because of ammo.
No thats what Im running and feels more HG only with no duke to me personally. Not saying it should be officially that way just what i prefer to run and honestly see ran for casual. Just brings me back to RE4.
But freedom to use duke and laser for all difficulties only makes sense.
Alright lol, like I said I'm not feeling good so I didn't want to misunderstand. Anyways, laser should be restricted to hc/VoS since it's not needed in casual.
