Setting up Autosplit

Having some trouble trying to get an autosplit working for this. Followed the tutorials gives in some of these other threads but it hasn't set up properly. I've tried all of the following things:

 • Turning on the autosplit setting with the correct tickboxes for my version
 • Changing the comparison to IGT
 • Also tried it with a scriptable autosplit in the layout setting to the same file that the built in autosplitter goes to
 • Tried downloading the files in the resources tab and changing things to the appropriate files, as well as not changing anything at all

All of these has had the same result of the autosplitter not starting when I begin from chapter 1. If there's a method I'm missing here or a file I don't have I could really do with knowing this since me and a friend are wanting to get this autosplit working before we try and improve our runs.

Thanks in advance

Do you have the fan-patch installed? If so, the autosplitter does not work with it.

Is that the one to bypass the whole GFWL thing? If so then yeah I do have that patch installed so if that's the thing causing the issue that helps alot to know. What's the solution to running the game without the fan-patch and without using GFWL?

That is causing the issue indeed, because it changes the addresses of where the script is looking to start/split. This is what I did to get the game to work.

 1. It WILL fail to complete the update or download.
 2. Then restart your computer
 3. Head to your Steam library and Right Click on your RE5 game title from the scroll list.
 4. Click select "properties"
 5. Click the "Local Files" tab
 6. Click the "Verify Integrity of Games Files"
 7. Wait for Download Verification to complete
 8. Launch game after Verification
 9. Windows Market Place will then Download Successfully.
 10. Launch RE5 normally through Steam.
 11. Success!

You'll know you've done it right if you have the patch number in the bottom right of the start menu https://gyazo.com/c968034a463a9ece9ef59ddac4c7d409 If you still don't have the version number after all this HMU on the RE5 discord, I believe I have a fix for it.

Can you elaborate more on the first point? Am I supposed to uninstall the patch and force it to fail to reinstall or something?

Also to clarify if I'm doing this without the fan patch I also still don't want to have to go through GFWL, but I'm having trouble finding ways of getting on it without using either.

Since you were using the patch you're gonna have to uninstall RE5 and then reinstall it without the patch. First do that and then try running it. If it doesn't work then uninstall GFWL and reinstall it. If it still doesn't work after that just reply to this or @ one of us in the RE5 discord

Am I going to have to use GFWL if I'm not using the patch? As I'd like to avoid having to install it if possible

Greater Manchester, England

You have to install it, but the game will not use GFWL

England

Any ETA on when this updated patch will work with the autosplitter? As my installer seems to have trouble installing GFWL so that might be easier for me to just wait for the patch compatability with the autosplitter

Delaware, USA

There is currently no ETA as the fan-patch is currently not permitted for runs.

England

I didn't actually know that, so are all the leaderboard results using the GFWL version then?

Greater Manchester, England

No, the normal steam version (Even though you have to have GFWL installed on your PC) does not use GFWL, they removed it in the latest patch they did. You just have to have GFWL installed for it to work is all

England

Right, that makes more sense. I guess I just need to figure out how to download GFWL separately then since it's failing to install when I boot up the game through steam

United States

It's funny because it says that GFWL is banned, yet GFWL code is in the (broken) current version of the game. You can manually install GFWL, just not using that installer that's in the RE5 depot (\redist\gfwlivesetup.exe). Honestly, there's so many changes between the console versions even just between each generation but, the PC version is by far the most out of date and will never be updated by Capcom. They half-assed the switch to Steamworks and left the GFWL code in, among other things, just to get it on Steam and sell more copies.
Modifying the game in any way: Unlimited Ammo, Character Mods (Textures and Models), HD Texture Changes and other modifications to the game will not be tolerated and your run will be rejected.
The rules here state that no textures or mods are allowed because they "affect gameplay" yet the PC version of RE5 is ~8.5 GB and the Xbox One install is 15.95 GB. That's a almost double the size of the PC install and considering the fact they keep changing the game and fixing things/updating it as they release it on new systems, the disparity between the PC and console versions only increases. The community patch is just doing what Capcom should be doing but never will. So forcing people to play a broken version of the game as-is while console releases are literally double the PC ones makes no sense.

Strange that the standard for leaderboards isn't the patch since it seems to fix alot of base game problems, but thanks for the link to the installer, I'll give it a download and fingers crossed everything works fine with the game

The issue is that the patch also introduces things that aren't in any of the console versions. For instance, it adds Sheva having co-op commands in single player. Instead of just "Attack" and "Cover" She has "Halt" "Thank" "Call" and "Send Out" This can save a lot of time in the speedrun simply due to the fact that you can cut out Shevas crappy AI in a lot of areas by making her wait. We reached out to the patch creators and asked if there was anything else that would subtly change the game from console versions but we have no gotten no reply. So we don't know how much more of the game is changed from the original PC/Console version. I'd also like to add that there are some changes for the better on the PC version over console. You can knife more than 1 box at a time, you can also 1 cycle Ndesu by going to 30fps, you can also shoot does down in 2 shots instead of 4 which is very useful for LiN As well as possibly more that I can't currently think of.

I'm all for the patch being allowed, but you need to account for the differences it makes to the run. I tested it myself and I love using it, but I still don't know exactly what changes it has under the hood (Not just the ones written on the page) Which are different than the console versions. The game works as is (mostly), and just because there is a non-official patch that makes it better does not mean it should be the standard "just because"

England

I actually had no idea the door 2 shot was tied to not using the fan patch, me and my friend had been trying that for ages and could only ever get it in three so that's actually incredibly useful to know. We'd heard about the Ndesu 1 cycle as well but wasn't actually sure why it was tied to 30fps or why it worked but seeing as we've been using the patch the whole time that makes alot more sense

GFWL version of the game also affects the run, including eliminating Sheva RNG due to her AI not being fully complete on that version of the port.  However, this version is not accessible to everyone, and some people cannot run co-op on that version at all.  Logistically it simply doesn't make sense to have that be the standard when it not only gives you an advantage but is also not available/accessible to everyone, and is also not even the version of the game you are purchasing when you buy it on steam.  If you need/want proof of any of this, you'll have to go to Snow; he was around when all of that was decided.

Additionally, the rules do not state that textures and skin mods "affect gameplay", it states that modifying the game in any way is not permitted.  It isn't unusual for speedrunning boards to be entirely against mods of any nature either. Literally no one is "forcing" anyone to play the game unpatched either. You can still run the game on a fan-patch on your own and just not submit to the boards.

Good try though.
