GCN Dolphin category is up (as a test atm)

We don't know yet if this will be ever popular or even stable for most of the people. But for now, go ahead and start submitting your runs on Dolphin.

Doing this is better than doing nothing after the voting and previous discussion about putting the category up or not. Having listed runs done on that emulator will help to analyze if it can be competitive with an specific release of Dolphin.

I think he's referring to GCN emulators on Wii. As far as I know there's only Dolphin for PC.

As far as I know, Dolphin is the most stable and is continually being worked on out of all the GC/Wii emulators. In terms of versions, I want to highly recommend sticking to 4.0 up until 4.0.2 (the latest stable release). I tried newer revisions and developement versions which actually run the game fine, but I noticed it loaded the game slightly slower than the aforementioned versions. From camera transitions to door loads it was very noticeable. I wanna say it was close to what a GC would run it normally, but I need to do testing on it and compare to be sure. There were also slight audio glitches that would always occur during the run as well.

I didn't want to post this spreadsheet yet since it's still incomplete. However, I wanted to share the load times I managed to finish gathering and organizing for informational purposes. I'm not gonna bother posting the discrepancies between emulator and console since the gap is incredibly large by the time you finish. It kind of confuses me in all honesty considering it's a 5 minute gap worth of load times. I'm gonna cut down the segments to the first 20-10 minutes of gameplay instead. It would save me time and trouble plus give me enough data to notice disparity at those points.

Keep in mind that I didn't take camera transitions or item pick ups into account. I thought it would be overkill as it already is, but I can make note of camera transitions in particular if need be.

bootloader should be allowed IMO, the GC Emu category for re3 only has runs done on dios mios when the option for dolphin is available.

if i was ever going to run this version i would go for bootloader, less pissing about and it's a nice alternative for people with low end computers.

Spain

Sure bootloader will be allowed too, makes sense if it's OK in RE3 to have Dolphin/Bootloader at the same level. If you already have runs done on there be sure to submit them to the test leaderboard too :)

Hello everyone. I don't know why but i think RE2 igt using bootloader works different than Dolphin. Using Dios Mios with a disc on the drive works different than not using a disk too. I have a run on bootloader without a disc on drive but i can't remember the version =/.

Sorry for my bad english =/

I'm agree with Baldo. They're so differents

@JulianManuelR

It's normal for the door loads to jump the FPS up during gameplay, but I do have to agree that Dolphin may not be for everyone in terms of stability. Even with the amount of hours I've had running it, I can't be 100% sure that the settings I use will work for them. I'm still willing to help out if anyone wants to run it.

I think we should keep the category if there's enough activity to maintain it :D

Spain

The whole purpose of the initial voting was for a Dolphin-specific category. Wii Bootloader is welcome, and can coexist in this same category if you compare the times vs other bootloader runs.

The ingame timer counts frames, not processor cycles, so even if the emulator does slow down at times, it wont affect the timer at the end. Loading speed however will affect the timer as the longer the loading screen takes, the more frames are passing, which adds more time. Having said that, the difference between loading from a regular hard drive vs an SSD, in the case of Dolphin, is next to nothing. Not worth making a fuss about.
