Vote for GCN Emu category

I don't think it should be added until it's 100% confirmed. Unfortunately, my time is limited to help find the answer to all these concerns.

Either way, just wait until the information is gathered before it's added.

Spain

I'll pull it out until you come across with the rules and such.

And don't worry about having to scroll to see Dreamcast, it will probably be merged with PC soon Kappa

We could always move all the playstation versions to 1 category and also do the same for Gamecube, That way we would be able to fit in Resident Evil 2 Game.Com Kappa

Exactly, half of these discussions and dramas about categories are in part because we're hindered with this actual speedrundotcom layout. People wants his category of choice be more relevant in the current layout and that means not being in the far right side of the page (which is stupid, because no category is more important than the other, it's the SAME DAMN GAME).

Guess the only rule everybody need to follow is the most used one for emulators. "Only use emulator X version Y or above". like for example: Only use Dolpin version 3.5 or above.

Showing inputs and FPS counter isnt really necessary. I choose to show my inputs when i play PC but that is not something i need to use, same goes for FPS counter.

Sweden

Well my suggestion for the rules then is:

Dolphin: 3.5 or above Input Shower: S Keys, NohBoard, Xpadder etc FPS Counter: Dolpin Built in, Fraps etc

United States

I've used the two of the stable versions (4.0 and 4.0.2) for this game and it's ran pretty solid. I did have to change the graphics renderer to keep it from crashing personally. I kept everything default except for that option and changed the native resolution to 1.5, but you can adjust the window size as long you don't have auto-adjust window size on (it's off by default). I don't recommend increasing the resolution beyond the native unless your system can handle it. I checked some other settings like FPS display, lag frame counter, auto-adjust window size, hide mouse cursor, etc.

Options > Graphic Settings > Under Basic, switch the Backend to Direct3D9 (deprecated). I'll have to try OpenGL and see if that's any good compared to D3D9, but if I remember correctly it crashed on me WutFace

The display info is purely aesthetic and for getting constant information from the emulator. Lag frame counter isn't necessary and is mainly used for TAS. I'm using it to see how many frames drop during multiple playthroughs and since I plan gathering all the load times for the game later down the line.

Seems like the GCN EMU runners are really serious on getting this leaderboard up asap OMGScoots

Everything is being tested methodically, this takes time. GameCube Emulator is seen to be unstable and shit by a lot of people, i don't want to submit false information to the thread. Regardless if that is positive or not, I don't want to go ahead with false expectations or information.

Unfortunately, I work full time, stream and have a life outside of this, so the process is a little slower than expected.

It might be worth mentioning. If anyone is offering their skills to help, i would appreciate that.

forcing a dolphin version and settings will be pointless and kill the category before it's even made. whether people like to admit it or not dolphin is a stable emulator, at least it is for Resi2. This does however depend on the users computer.

I managed to get dolphin at a stable 30FPS on my Brothers dual core computer on version 3.5 with ALOT of tweaks to settings.

Here are my computers settings. (i use 4.0)

Feel free to match my settings but there is a chance they will not work so try and find what works best.

for the rules of the category i would say - show inputs and show FPS (you can do both of these via dolphin)

After many runs i would deem this emulator stable, but of course that is my opinion. I have no interest in running this category just thought i would share information.

Thanks Steven, It would be good to see a few people test these settings to see how theirs run and report back.

I agree Steven, I don't think there is stable emulator in existence in fairness. I have used a few in which people have praised its performance no end, and yet they break for me.

This is more about testing which settings best work for everyone. I want to test a few things that have crossed my mind the last few days before saying anything (particularly versions of EMU).

I will set some time aside this evening and hopefully post my own conclusion. Anyone reading this, test the settings on your setup and let everyone know how it ran.

England

another thing i should mention is that using Vsync fixed the games stability for Darazanjoll but for myself it caused sound delay. So it may be worth testing different settings with Vsync on and off

We have matched settings other than Vsync and both of our games run the same

OH YES!

so, what's happening? RaccAttack

Dont worry Steven, im sure they do everything they can. We never had a leaderboard for GCN EMU so it wont hurt waiting a few weeks more.

Man, can you play US so the rest of us have a chance...

Who the fuck runs a US version on EMU? 4Head

Sorry, I've been slacking with gathering load times for RE2 GC emu and I recently got a hold of an actual GC (NTSC-J) run. I've decided to use one scenario as a basis for this project since I originally was going to have all four scenarios done for this. If one scenario is consistent than the rest should be fine. I know there's also concern with Dolphin's stability, but my main concern is making sure the load times have consistency across emu and console.

And, I understand that the JP version is going to be the main regional choice for players which makes this even more difficult for me to conduct all this as US is the only available version at the moment. Please bear with me as I do my best to get this done. :)

I will have a spreadsheet up for all this when it is completed.

It is true that emulator tends to be faster than hardware itself. I could use RTA in place of what I'm doing, but I'm just doing it for the sake of having numbers and since load times for doors/scenes are the best places to see differences.

England

IGT is tied to frame therefore it doesn't matter if someones emulator is more "stable" than another runners if FPS drops so does the IGT. Console will be slower compared to Emu for obvious reasons

We had a gamecube emulator category back on the wiki, Leon A had some competition for a while between pessimism and trance and it was somewhat active across the board.

it was good enough for a category then, so it shouldn't be a problem just adding it now.

IMO the longer its left not added, the less interest there will be when it finally does get added.

Then we come back to this . "- If this category is inactive for more than a month, it will be deleted (since we want to keep emu categories to a minimum). "

Then all the hours put into finding load times and whatever else will be a complete waste of life.
