switch from in game time to real time

i was thinking we should switch timing methods, because right now the difference between real time and igt is different for every runner, which obviously creates advantages and disadvantages for all runners. switching the official timing method to real time could alleviate that. Discuss!!

So are you saying that there wont be a difference if RTA is used? Would love to hear how you came to that conclusion.

Also could you tell us what the advantages and disadvantages are atm?

If people are playing on PC, they should fully know what to expect when going into PC speedrunning. The better PC will always have an advantage. Console wise, RTA would be PS4 Pro or Xbox Scorpio with an SSD or you have no chance of WR.

There's nothing to suggest there's anything wrong with the IGT, but the issue with RTA is what I just listed above.

well i was skipping through some runs and some had a few seconds differences between rt and igt, others had around half a minute or a bit more, and some actually had several minutes between them (i was looking from the first piano note in the intro to the first piano note in the credits btw, but thats not even important here), and i was wondering if there is a time discrepancy where we would say this is weird, or something doesnt add up.

right now what prevents someone from taking a mediocre or even bad run and photoshop a record time at the end, if the time on the final screen doesnt really have to correspond with the actually amount of time spent to clear the game?

so i was thinking that displaying 2 timings similiar to what the metroid community does in super metroid and MP for example, might add something to the leaderboard, idk
