Just a question about the timing part of it. Wouldn’t it make more sense if you started the timer when u finally press A to physically start it when you load in?

Not a mod but I agree with this sentiment, I don’t think there’s any load time issues there. Although there is the initial menuing because you have to point in the box, yet it’s quite easy.

I believe that the timer should start on the selection that directly gives you control of your character, regardless of the category. Load time differences are negligible but they still add on unnecessary time due to hardware age or something similar to that. I think there should there be a rule change.

starting on clicking the stage/using the 3s restart offset has just become universal for timing in wsr. pretty much every category uses it except for maybe one or two

also, things like changing timing rules would require mods to retime every single run under the category which takes up quite a bit of time

there simply isnt a point to change it

Just because you didn't read the rules the first time and are upset you got your illegitimate world record rejected doesn't mean you should complain in the fourms. Just like Zennan said, timing is done universally across the board. The goal is to keep things uniform. We don't change things on the fly, we have meetings and discuss and vote with weeks of discussion.

Speedrun.com has this cool feature where you can click a button and it tells you the rules of the category. It states "Timing beings when either selecting said level, or finishing the previous level. Time ends when you do the last hit on the last opponent, "100%" the level."

You should always, ALWAYS read the rules before submitting any run. Not reading the first time is a mistake, the second time is a choice. Swordplay Showdown IL timing has been set since 2018, and it works wonders.
