that's unfortunate, but understandable. Maybe as a misc category though? Honestly, challenge stuff like this (single character, only score with throws, only score with 100 coins, only play with character X etc.) would be most interesting for me. Also, playing on an emulator isn't really an option for me, since I'd have to relearn the entire game again. I'll work something out, no worries :)

Hi there, thanks for still getting back to me! Unfortunately my DS broke in the meantime, so I'll need to aquire a new one somewhen. However, I might have an interesting idea for a category, if you guys are taking suggestions:

Hard Any% Single Character

The name can of course be changed, since I'm not a very creative guy, but the idea is that you play all four of the hard cups (or even just the Rainbow cup, since that's arguably the most interesting) without ever switching characters. So whatever character you select first will be the only one you use, the other two are just there because they have to.

When my DS still worked, I tried that for fun, and it is indeed possible (somewhat easily if you take someone like Black Mage, much more difficult if you take Boo or Fly Guy) and makes for a really good challenge. Would maybe take a bit longer than a day to max that one out, like Mushroom Cup Any% ^^

I just recently started playing N++, but I would really like to get into speedrunning it once I get better. Is there a community discord server or something similar to go? Would really like to talk to some of the people who already run this!

I would like to run this game, but I have a few questions.

1. I only have the German version of this game, does that matter?

2. I don't have a capture card and I don't really wanna buy one or play on an emulator. Would it be alright if I recorded the video with a webcam (and have livesplit or so running on screen; recording both at the same time)? If not, I'll see if someone can borrow me a card.

3. Is it possible to add the other tournaments as well, perhaps (which I'd find most interesting) a '100%' category, in which you have to complete all the tournaments in a row?

4. It doesn't say anything about this in the rules, so I'll just ask: Are there any limitations on characters? I assume not, but better safe than sorry :)

So, while we still won't have an actual individual level leaderboard, you can now run the individual batches :)

I'll lock this thread, as the issue has been resolved.

The mods have discussed the issue and decided to discard the route-guarding rules in an effort to be more in-line with the speedrun community as a whole.

Seeing this response, we will rethink the decision.

I think, as here I don't have a character limit, I can explain this better here.

In the game itself, you can't watch the replays of other people on challenges and bonus levels. As the devs themselves stated, that is so players need to find their own ways around those levels, first of all. However, the important part is the second part of their reasoning. They made it like this, so if someone finds a new route or strat, he doesn't HAVE to share it, unless he wants to. We decided to stick with that, as we agree with that reasoning. However, if someone uses their own strats exclusively in the run, and wants the video to be left up, we will leave it up (I should probably specify that in the description, and will add that soon). However, we don't want people sharing a strat that they didn't invent / find, and just got told by the inventor / finder of the strat to improve their time on the leaderboard, but is not meant to be shared publically. It's a difference between two people exchanging strats to push each other to new limits, and sharing them publicly for everyone to see.

I didn't even know this was a thing until now, but well. We decided not to do that since the game itself has leaderboards for the individual levels. Also, at least on PC, you can view the WR replay anyway. Since the winter batch is included in all speedruns except Any%, the game is only runnable (except for Any%) on PC. So we are, at least for now, not planning to include level leaderboards.
