After a quick testing session, the only thing I can say is that launches will be hard to better with tuning.

I tested only with lv2 parts (stage 4), I found some useful things, but nothing that removes completely these shitty starts.

  • Drag mode : Minimum Aero, Rear height max, rear tire grip mininum (although I don't think it changes anything)

  • Street X : Max Aero, rear height max, steering ratio max Didn't test any other mode, but should be similar to street X I suppose

  • Usable for every mode (but I didn't notice a big difference) : Chip and Turbo with max power between 6k and 8k RPM. The rest is probably to tune depending on each other style, but for myself I don't even see a difference.

I think that we should try to tune only with stage 1 parts, so that if it works good we'd just have to keep them for the whole run.

@Ewil, you can apply 4 layers of vinyls maximum, and the problem is that your unique vinyl uses the 4 layers, for the gain of only 1.

Ok, so, for my inputs problem, I noticed that if I press a bit too long on my button, it does a change ingame. If I do a quick press, then it's ok. Hard to remember every time, but that's better than nothing.

Second, I found a way to be at 6.08 (or 6.04, don't remember well already...) without final window tint. In paint shop, use 4x whole-car vinyls. Then add sponsors everywhere (you can stay in Lv1 look for rear wings), and it should work. Also, we can still upgrade window tints (I think), but we gain 0.04, without the last level. So I suppose this should be like 15,20 secs slower in the shops, but that's a 2mins detour removed.

Strange, because it's clear that gear change is so much faster..... Also, when I'll have the route on my head, I'll try to see if a quick setup can avoid a bit that underev on each start, because it's really fuckin annoying, and the time wasted is kinda huge.

Maybe make a really short 1st gear, and grant more power for 3-4k RPM with the chip or turbo.

I'm just driving in Hard difficulty, don't know yet what my runs are gonna be about. I haven't tested, but maybe if you add every sponsor stickers on your car, you can gain enough to get to 6 star rating.

I'm probably gonna use Corolla, but maybe 206 will be a choice. As I haven't played this game as much as MW, I don't know many things. Is there a car that has got enough power to feel a difference compared to any other car? It might work too if we use walls as much as possible.

I dunno if I'm gotta do it someday, but I feel like preparing a marathon category, with a bunch of NFS (U1, U2, MW, Carbon, PS maybe), should be like a 25 to 30h run, could be fun :D

I had some difficulties during the first minutes with the pad, because the gameplay is different. But now I don't have too much problems, although I can feel there is some sort of latency when I steer and change my direction then.

I won't use the triggers to up/downshift, because I use them for accel/brake, which is by far more convenient. Also, that don't ruin my habits of Forza 6 tryhards. Moreover, I use B as upshift, so that I can use Nitro (on Y) and shift at the same time. Same for downshift, assigned on A, so that I can handbrake if needed at the same time.

So the only problem is the up/downshift when I go out of a shop or close my messages. Not a big deal, but still a few tenths lost here and there.

@Ewil, I'm learning your route atm, and I've noticed a possible change. During stage 4, you go race in Jackson, and then go back to shops, to go back again uphill for the DVD. Is there any way of tuning the car before coming in the Heights, to avoid this? Or is it impossible?

FranceSeven8 years ago

Saw the drama yesterday, but didn't want to interrupt, wasn't concerned by that.

I'm learning U2 atm, done up to stage 3. I have a small problem tho, on my XOne pad I assigned the upshift on "B" and the downshift on "A", but for some reason when I skip a cutscene (like when I go out of a shop) or when I close my messages menu, I upshift or downshift, depending on what I pressed. So in this situation, I start in Neutral or in 2nd gear, which makes me lose some time.... Does it happens to someone else?

Also, I wanted to assign upshift and downshift on my right stick, but for some reason I can't, it's like the game doesn't even recognizes it...

Atm I can't stream with my bad connection so I won't be able to make some ad to promote NFS runs, sadly. I hope that I'll be able to make it around September, although I'm not really sure it will happen on this time.

FranceSeven8 years ago

By tutorial cutscenes, do you mean race modes cutscenes, or scenario cutscene, like the one when you go to the garage?

But as you can skip them immediately in a "normal" version, it shouldn't save more than 5 seconds, I suppose. Maybe it works for every stage, did you try it yet?

FranceSeven8 years ago

Yeah, but I won't bother to calculate load times ^^ I don't think we'd have to calculate without loads tho, too much work for getting it. If at least there was an IGT...

FranceSeven8 years ago

Thanks !

SO, about the run :

  • Could have been a sub 6:10 with some better pursuits. But sometimes I just had enough of that shitty RNG the game gives you.

  • I didn't timed loadings properly, but only with faster loadings and menus, PC could have been better by 5 minutes, at least.

  • I didn't used the U2 bonus cash, since it was allowed after I started this run. Might have a 1 minute gain, maybe more, maybe less, I don't know.

  • Only one circuit has not been glitched in the run : Izzy's 'Omega'. Glitching it is slower overall (on console - maybe on PC it's better by a bit)

  • On a RTA run, glitched menus don't reset unless you exit the game. I obviously did, so I kept unglitched menus each time I changed a value on a track. I lost between 20 and 30 seconds because of that.

  • Overall, a sub 6 might be possible on PC, but it will never happen on a RTA run anyway ^^

The run in numbers :

  • This attempt took me 44 days. Adding to this all my failed ones, it represents around 130 days.
  • 122 segments
  • 2 cars used (without M3 GTR at the start and end)
  • 2 glitches used (Fastlap & Master glitch)
  • 100+ hours played
  • Infinite number of resets Kappa

This was my first big speedrunning project, and I'm happy I've done it to the end, because it was tough with all the dramas happening here. Thanks for everyone who helped me in any way, it was great !

Now it's time to get a pause, I'll re-run NFS games someday when I'll get a good PC.

FranceSeven8 years ago

It is finished. Will post some comments here later.

I hope that there is no discrepancy this time, but anyway if there's some I'm still gonna be satisfied of this.

I have to finish my document quickly, then I'll do a shorter one for people who want to run this game with few notes.

Bull.

I just noticed that I lost quite a lot of time on this pursuit. Kuru you had a great pursuit it seems, despite your troubles to escape at the end. Seems that I've lost around 1:30, sadly

FranceSeven8 years ago

Webster knew everything about slowness.

Finally my uploads are back to the same point on where I am on the game ! But now I'm stuck already for 2 days on JV's pursuit... I don't know why but cops are just insanely brutal and I just can't end a pursuit normally. I literally never saw that.

Happy new year everyone ! May the WRs be with you ^^

Ming wanted to lose in 2015, so he did
