Greetings !
I discovered a problem recently with the Stock Car - All Races category which will need a change in the rulings which I believe is the best solution to everyone. The problem is as follows:
While reviewing the run by josef733, it turned out he got some DNF ("did not finish") flags on his driver stats even though he crossed every finish line in the races before retiring from menu.
After some emu testing, I found that this is caused by retiring BEFORE waiting for the black-white flag with the "Race Over" text to appear, not caring about the finish line being crossed or not. So technically it seemed that the game had not recognized these races as being finished and thus invalidated the run.
However the game still recognized the races as "complete", because retiring early usually gives you a rank penalty, but here the full points for the current rank while crossing the finish line have been granted. So I consider this an ingame bug that it gives you DNF flags without any retiring penalties and it should not be used as an indicator when to call a run "finished".
The ruleset has now been changed so that you have to cross the finish line before retiring from the menu instead of waiting for the "Race Over" flag to appear.
Also please note that you stop the timer on the "WINNER" screen, not on crossing the finish line on Ultimate Destruction Speedway.
I have now separated the PSX and PC on the board for every category. It looks like it's quite a bit overblown with buttons but it's the only fair way since the platform differences are too heavy to combine them into a single board imo.
I'm afraid seeing the winner screen is mandatory.. You could survive all races in Division 1, but not gain enough points to win the division. That would not count towards "finishing the game".
But in exchange some good old nostalgia. What a glorious grey box that thing is. :D
Added ILs for Time Trial submissions. Also added a field "car" to be selected on submission (Rookie / Amateur / Pro) since we use quite different ones.
I was thinking about that already. Would be handy I guess. I could add them as IL no problem.
Would be cool to have you back on board :P You play the real thing on a PS2 ?
I added new sub-categories to Stock Car so you guys can now submit runs including either any or all races.
The requirement is racing all tracks until the black-white flag appears. That means - since you can not restart a race - if you die on a track you have to either do the current season over or reset the entire run.
The already submitted runs for Stock Car have been filed under the sub-category "Any races".
Happy driving !
Thank you.
Greetings.
I was about to do another run of the NG+ PC category. But before my practice run I forgot to duplicate the NG+ ready file and just used it up, so now I have no file where I can technically start a NG+ from without playing through the entire thing again.
I just have a file with 0:00:00 playtime that starts the opening cutscene on select. The only difference is that the settings (main char selection etc.) is being skipped which isn't part of the run anyways. I wonder if this would that be good enough to start the run from ?
Thanks in advance.
A good idea imo. Would get rid of the AI scoring RNG and shift it over to driving skill.
Greetings, I have added "Broken Sword 4: The Angel of Death" to this site and would like to have it added to the series.
I knew this problem would occur sooner or later. I guess I delayed it to be a little too "later".
I was wondering if there's a way to merge the two platforms into each other.. speaking of Crime War.. just ignoring everything outside the levels wouldn't be fair since weapon selection should be timed. Removing the time for every "loading" screen ?
As you probably know, the game can't load level 28 and softlocks because it cannot place 82 viruses in the stage. I thought it might be interesting to get there asap, starting from Level 20. Unfortunately there's a lot of RNG involved, especially in the levels 24-26. Sometimes the layout won't allow you to break the top virus row.
What do you think about it ?
Wow. That's amazing. So you decided to install a time barrier for emulator runs so that emu runners who (legitimately) approach a possible sub 1:35 would need to make a decision if they want to try to PB sub 1:35 or just throw enough time to make it onto the board. Seriously ?
But since that's not enough, let's just make emulator runs hidden by default to scare off the filthy emu scrubs even more.
To be honest guys, just confess to your true standpoint and ban emulators entirely instead of letting them in just to punch them right into their faces.
Yes I remember that the manual said something about double points for spinning the 1st place car. But according to my experiences I considered this to be wrong. Just go to Ultimate Demolition Speedway (its pretty easy to get a good hit there), drive backwards and wait at the steep curve to hit the 1st place car. You never get anything above 50. You can do it on Pine Hills too. Maybe if you get a real crazy glitched hit with dozens of spins the game could freak and just max it out.
Also, I think it's not possible to stack up destruction and spin points on the same hit. If you hit a car at the front and destroy it, you get 25 kill points immediately. And since the game does not reward you for spinning dead cars, you don't get any more points despite the fact that on the last hit it was still alive.
Anytime near I want to pick the game up again as well and try to get a better understanding of the game speedrun-wise.
But isn't the score capped at 50 for each spin no matter how many times/degrees it spins in one aerial ? Do you have some kind of footage for this ?
Hey Jay,
thanks for looking into the thing. That clarifies things now. Don't get me wrong for my latest post - I think real life concerns always have priority over speedrun things. I was just confused that I saw nothing in response to this topic for months.
But I'm glad it's cleaned up now. :)
but if you submit then the secret strats won't be secret anymore ;)
So I assume that nobody is interested in clarifying the situation ?
I don't see the point in this since the game is really too short to put up extra categories that only contain parts of it. If the game featured savefiles so you could select your starting world, I'd put up individual level categories, but it doesn't.
