Would a coil/special coil speedrun be classed as ending when the player touches the boost item barrier? Or would this not be a thing at all?

I think add 1/2 second to thaat would be good

I think it shoud count if the player hits the boost barrier. It's close enough as a completed speedrun, I guess.
