I have a strat. Use the d-pad instead. Press up for the shortest amount of time time you can, then quickly move your finger smoothly to left+down and then directly up shortly after.
These inputs are handwritten here and not precise, but should give you an idea:
Frames:
1: Up
2: Left
3: Left+Down
4: Left+Down
5: Left+Down
6: Left+Down
7: Up

I found multiple pause-buffer strats, but it's all different everytime. The grab after step 7 is not consistent, so finding a pause-buffer/consistent strat in step 8 is pretty tough. I hope we'll get it. Otherwise, step 8 IS practice-able, but it will be a hard jump either way. Are you on the Discord server, Nanonym?

I found a wrong warp yesterday. It occurs after being OoB below Hagrid's hut, then going back up to the normal level and entering the door in front of his Hut.. I talked with Purple about it, and I think we concluded that it had to do with touching/not touching death planes outside the level, which causes the game to set Harry's death flag to "true", which leads the game to somehow send you to the checkpoint after entering the area. Purple's theory is like so: "Maybe you don't hit the deathplane, but the game still sets Harry to spawn at the start of the area, expecting a death state. since you transition into the Puffskein area, the game sets you to the start of the area, which is down at the other end, but it then also thinks you have the death state, so it repeats itself."

What was the conclusion on this? Are we switching to IGT as the main time on the leaderboards? Since pausing in-game causes the IGT to pause as well, do we accept this, or is it silly that you can pause anytime, leave, come back and lose no time?

Thanks for the feedback, I will look into your findings. Now that step 7 is very consistent, the place you stand in step 8 should be pretty consistent too, so there's hope for a pause-buffer method. When we find that, fire seed skip will be 110% consistent!

Be sure to check out the newest update. I changed step 7 to be more consistent. 🙂

Cool find. I have tried crouching and the likes a million times with the water, but I've never found this. How often can you do this? It seems super rare otherwise maybe a setup could be found.

Excellent work, vlack. Maybe you should add them as a guide for itself?

If possible, it would be great if Wario Land 3 could be pushed a little further into the day (the 25th), as I have to travel to växjö that same day from Aarhus, Denmark. Let me know if anything can be done, or I'll probably see it in the next draft. Should've thought about that before. Else I'll probably figure something out. 🙂

EDIT: It's no problem anyway, I figured it out. Would still be cool to push it a couple of hours if possible, but it's a low priority thing and shouldn't cause you any trouble. 🙂

Just a little sign of life. Been doing offline runs and practice on Wario Land 3 instead of online recently. Reason being a lot of moving and stuff. It rarely takes more than a few minutes of practice before I can play at WR pace though. There's quite a gap now from my PB to WR, which is because VlackSR got a decent run with the newest 1 minute saving strats. In reality, we are still very close. Just a few one-frame tricks that seperates us. Don't know if this post makes any sense to make, but felt like it was appropriate. 🙂

Thread: The new timing

Started by: pr0tepr0te

I decided to change the timing because of some (myself included) had an unfair advantage with quicker loading times in the beginning. We now time when Paul Prospero says "DOOR" in the sentence "as easy as knocking on his DOOR". It's easy to always start the timer there, and it's right before you gain control. I fixed all the times on the leaderboards to fit this new timing, so the new times are now fair! 🙂

Working on the proxies with a different approach, getting some pretty close results:

I tried messing around with an idea I had with the corners, and turned out it worked. Although, the geometry of the wall is terrible and I couldn't really get too close. These are just a few examples of 40 minutes of save stating.

Fun death glitch in voldemort fight (sorry for loud danish yelling, I thought I would lose my run! - Just turn down volume a little)

I've found that this method works everytime if done exactly the same way. At least I'm 90% sure I'd say. Still haven't figured out how to get the last jump to grab the trees consistently. NOTE: This is basically Deryls strat, I'm just aiming to make his strat 100% consistent or close.

First off a video and then a breakdown:

Step 1: Walk directly into the corner.
Step 2: Press triangle and aim directly at this place (can be tricky before you get a hang): http://i.imgur.com/Es7CMdT.png
Step 3: Press triangle again and quickly start moving into the acute angle.
Step 4: Right before Harry jumps, press pause and keep pause/unpausing with X and START right after each other, until you see Harry bowing down slightly.
Step 5: Hold down+right with either dpad or analog (I use analog) and press unpause and quickly pause very shortly after.
Step 6: Hold right, make sure "continue" is selected and press X and START with one frame in between (almost at the same time, but X first.)
Step 7: This is tricky with your fingers: Hold right again AND R2 on the same time and then do the one frame unpause with X and START as in the previous step. (You're basically inputting precise inputs on two frames)
Step 8: If you now just hold right again and unpause, you should get rapid jumps, and this is how far I've come so far.

I do sometimes get more rapid jumps than in the video, but I think that has to do with either me aiming SLIGHTLY different, or the amount of down+right (step 5) frames are two many/few.
Anyway, just wanted to share what I've found so we can all help to find that beloved consistent fire seed skip that we're aaallll dreamin' 'bout every night!

Game Name: Wario Land 3
System: Game Boy Color (Played on Game Cube w. Game Boy Player)
Category: Any%
Gameplay Estimate: 1:05:00 (H:MM:SS)
Ending/Bonus Estimate: 0:10:00
Possible Donation Incentives: ESGPuppetMaster who's with me on commentary, will play the danish song "Lille Peter Edderkop" (Itsy Bitsy Spider in english) on guitar during the second to last boss which we call "spiderboss".
Sample run video (mostly in danish, ESA run will of course feature english commentary):
Description: Wario Land 3 is a game many played as a child on their Game Boy Colors, but not many has ever seen the amazing any% run. It features many interesting glitches (including frame perfect walljumps, wrong warps, glitched OoB areas, messing with the tileset to manipulate enemy spawns and more), many cool big and small tricks and lots of getting stuff early and getting-to-places where-you-shouldn't-be-yet's and exciting RNG at times. All of this makes for a very optimized run which lands at about 50 minutes if everything goes as it should. Other than that, Puppet, as mentioned above, will join me on the commentary (he did a Wario Land 2 run at ESA 2015) in order to explain as much as possible in the best way.
Availability: Any day, any time, hit me!
