Thread: Bobls time-attack at ESA Summer 2020

Started by: pr0tepr0te

Just wanted to let anyone who comes across this game know, that I've got a green light from Fatzke to put up a Bobls-station at ESA Summer 2020. The game will be playable on-site with a flipchart next to it, so people can keep track of their PBs. I will be arranging some kind of prizes for top 3 or anyone below 2:45 or something challenging like that. There might be some Bobls tshirts! 🙂

This post is coming in quite late, but I thought I'd let people know as new blood has been coming to this game!

I found all this stuff well over a year ago but never documented it, as it didn't lead to anything, but I guess it's still some kind of hope towards actually skipping the one crime scene we have to solve in any%.

When going to the scissors after the mine section, we can instead use the elevator to go up some way, then clip out of it (using the same method as when we clip to the mine) and fall out behind the player clip next to the elevator shaft. From here, we can (this is tricky af) move all the way along the edge of the playable field. At some point, there's a player clip that I haven't been able to get past. It's also very easy to fall out of the level at any point doing all this, so it took a lot of trial and error to get to "the end". Remember, every time you fall out of the level, you have to quit and reload the checkpoint, and do it all again.

My hopes was that this would somehow allow us to either get around the player clip blocking the river passage, and then somehow getting back inbounds, or simply activating a checkpoint, then quit/loading to get back inside the level.

Now, if this sparks some interest in any of you, please know, that this will take up A LOT of your time to investigate, and I'm 95% sure there is nothing to be found here. I do grind shit like this myself, so I think it should be grinded to death so that we know with 100% certainty, that we cannot skip that crime scene. I should also note, that with how long it takes to navigate the terrain outside of the player clip, this might not even save any time if we get the skip.

Just thought I'd share with everyone!

It eliminates all risks of softlocking, which helps keeping down the salt levels.

I'm going to have to cancel Wario Land 3 this year sadly, as I will not be able to make it to the event unfortunately. Thanks for including it again this year, and sorry for the troubles! I wish you all a great event 🙂

Not really sure where to post this, so I'll throw it here. Two days of being back to running Wario Land 3, and I just got a sweet new PB of 46:16 (old was 47:49). WR currently is 45:51, so I'm only +25 sec. 🙂

My opinion is that an any% run should not require any kind of setup or other save files before the run begins. One should be able to buy a new game, buy a new memory card, buy a new console and perform the run from there, from the beginning. I think the skip is cool though and could very well be used in a seperate, custom category. So not "NG+" but "Any% Quidditch file/skip/league unlocked" or something along those lines.

Unfortunately we don't have anything like that currently. The community hasn't been that active lately. Is there anything specific you'd like to discuss or have help with?

I'd like to request super mod status for the game Jinx for PS1. The former super mod left purplesunderyl and unviablegarbage as normal mods, and they are no longer (or at least not for now) active within the game. So for mod'ing the page and making it prettier, I would like to be super mod there, if possible. Thanks you.

No no, it's the very moment where you can walk, after the grab, he does a jump instead, and jumps OoB. Just have to find out if we can counter it.

Example from my run:

Edit:
I think actually, if you simply stand still for half a second, he won't jump into OoB when you hit UP. Either that, or he'll drop back down in the level, which is MUCH more preferable than falling OoB. This is just what I believe currently. So the strat is to wait for half a second or something, before you press UP.

I noticed yesterday that it seems like there's not complete certainty of when the IGT counts. When exactly does it count and when does it pause?

Thanks!

Yeah it's about 20% for me as well. I noticed it was easier the higher up in the trees you get a grab. A new problem popped up in my runs that happened super rare in practice. Over half of my fire seed skip attempts, I fell OoB. It loses a lot of time. I might have way of avoiding it, but that needs more investigation.

I pause-buffered one frame too long in the beginning, but luckily we have 2 frames to press left. With practice, it could maybe be done without pause-buffering 😃

It's UP for a very short period of time, then DOWN+LEFT for a little longer and then UP again.

Great stuff. I will take a look at some more setups today as well. So far, the d-pad works pretty alright for me. Or realistically, I'd say 1/3 tries succeeds. Where I believe the 3rd try would be a little over a minute out of the 5 minutes we have to still save time with the skip.
