4 WRs with no video proof.

Most relevant information for this topic has already been covered, but I do have a couple extra things to mention.

If you consider the individual cup splits from the video of my 37'32 All Cups (1P), I have times of 8'08/9'08/9'02/8'47 on video, whereas my current times on the individual 1P cup leaderboards are 7'47/9'07/9'10/8'40. Aside from Mushroom Cup (since there is additional contention there), I see no need to provide additional proof for such similarly mediocre times.

I do not currently have access to my own NTSC setup, but I happened to be at KVD's house last weekend and took the time to give Mushroom Cup a couple quick tries. You can find the video of the results here, with commentary by KVD: .

Hey everyone it's me a referee and just now I remembered I took a picture of when Todd "Lafungo" Rogers got his insane time of 7:47 mushroom cup by popping the NBT strat in the 2nd track. This one's for lafungo's friends and haters. https://i.imgur.com/mOtn0oF.jpg

I've started speedrunning SMK for 2 hours and I already did a 8:06 on mushroom cup with a shit ton of mistakes and I'm not even able to NBT so It must probably be possible to do like 7:30 on Mushroom cup with 2 feathers on the 4th level which by themselves can save like 12-15 seconds. The times are so bad I though more people would run this amazing game.. I will certainly try to lower these times.

^Loads of people compete for time trials and GP on indiviual tracks, just not on speedrun.com. The smk community has been around a long time and so we have had our own sites over 15 years now (maybe longer).

I understand and it is pretty cool. The main issue is that their should be one site with world records. I'm new to speedrunning but I feel like it's confusing when you have Speed demo Archive, this site, youtube, a site only for the game itself... I guess if you guys tried to beat those records here it would take like 1 or 2 tries to be first..

Our site (www.mariokart64.com/smk) has been around since 1998* and has almost 1,000 unique members (* the Super Mario Kart site actually pre-dates the mariokart64.com domain, but we all merged together in 2006 to make it easy on the entire community). If we decided to jump to every new platform that comes around (like SDA, this site, YouTube, etc...), there would be no end and would destroy the legacy that we've all as a community built together. I agree that if you're new to speedrunning then you're definitely not going to know each and every site for each and every game that exists, but if you look around you'd find that our site is home to every official world record (for time trials), and will continue to be our home for many years to come.

This site is certainly great, but it's just not where we choose to actively participate, since we already have the aforementioned site listed above.

And yes, you're right about us easily beating the records listed here, as Moll proved yesterday...

"The funny thing is that dan__h should actually have this 'wr' since his mushroom cup in the 1P all cups run he submitted is faster"

Lol, Moll, I'm not even good at this game. I'm sure my 1p All Cups run will be crushed by the time, say SNES Superstars rolls around.

And is Speed Demos Archive really considered any sort of wr site? They're all about video quality over exceptional speedruns, from what I hear.

The Mega Man series has its own speedrunning wr site, so it's not that unusual to have a game have its own domain when people have been competing at it far longer than speedrun dot com has been in existence.

Québec

Ok I didnt know speedrun.com was such a new site I just though in my beginner head that it was ''the site'' just cause of the domain name lol. I though it would be ''the site'' to see all world records of any games but I'm acutally pretty wrong.

Is there a difference between the japanese version and the american version? I saw Dangermoll is playing on japanese is it faster or?

England

It's cheaper to get japanese equipment and games in Europe than American versions. Don't think there is any time difference though. I could test test it to see if the menu transistion and track transition times differ but I don't think they do. The race's themselves are the same.

Just read your description of your Mush Cup wr, Moll. Fitting.

ahah this shits are amazing, but i think it should be required to anyone to entry in top of leaderboard to show a video of the run, no matter if they're vips or mods or the time is considered mediocre by the best players of the world

and also i'm disappointed there are no individual time trial records in here (i would like to submit mines on the sites linked, but i play on emulator)
