Submitting Multiple Runs at a Time
Texas, USA

Hi, I'm new to speedrunning and was just wondering if it's uncourteous to submit a speedrun if your previous one hasn't been approved yet. I don't want to annoy the mods or bog them down with too many runs, so I just wanna make sure.

It is likely preference. I personally do not mind multiple submissions for the same run, even if it's ran on the same day.

Just send a quick message to one of the board's moderators if you are still unsure.

If you have new personal bests, go ahead and submit them. Spacing out your submissions doesn't really benefit anyone in the grand scheme of things.

The only exception to that is if you get multiple PBs in the same game and category on the same day, but that's mostly just because the site doesn't handle the ordering of same-day PBs properly.

Some mods can verify your fastest time but reject the other times to make it easier for them. It won't affect you bad but yeah.

No, no mods should ever do that. Don’t ever reject a run just because someone also has a faster time waiting verification. Always approve every run (unless it has a legit reason to be rejected of course). A lot of people want to be able to track their improvements, so don’t start rejecting stuff if they have multiple ones waiting.

If you PB, and want to submit said PB, then do it. The mods took that role and should expect to deal with it. Still, if you know you can PB easily, maybe don't make 10 submissions.

And yeah if you have multiple submissions from one person, don't verify one run and reject the others. I get it if you verify one after watching it, but ignore watching the other runs and just auto verify, cause they're obsolete now, but rejection? Nah don't do that.

Bouncing off Spider, yeah, that is my biggest complaint with several leaderboards. Runs imo opinion should only be rejected if they don't follow the rules. "Obsolete" is pretty much never in the rules, and never should be. If I PB a run 5 times, and upload all 5 of them (especially for a guy who has .3 upload speed), then the mods should just accept all five. Especially if all five runs have video proof. (I can sorta understand if the runs didn't have proof.)

I've just gotten to the point where if I know the moderator rejects runs based on it being obsolete, then I'll just submit the first one, wait for the run to be accept, then submit the next one.

Indeed. If I get a submission that gets obsoleted before finishing verification, the top run gets verified properly, and everything after that I make a moderator note "Verified as obsolete" - this way, if it comes out later that the top run is, in fact, not legitimate for some reason we didn't realize, we also know the run verified as obsolete was not watched.

The runner gets their full history, and we get an easy way to tell which runs we properly verified and which were simply obsolete and verified for the runner's history.

But why not just watch and actually verify the obsolete runs? It feels counter intuitive to verify a run by not watching it simply because it's obsolete. If I notice multiple runs by a user in the same category I watch them in order of longest run time to shortest run time, verifying that none of them are invalid in any way.

It's true that by watching all runs from one user you can catch things might have otherwise not caught. I actually had this issue recently, but this was a runner I was skeptical of from the jump. Still, most people don't submit multiple runs anyways, and if they do, are they trustworthy enough to skip watching their obsoleted run? Your call really.

That's exactly what I think of when I see multiple submissions.

For the real deep dive you can watch a runner's past broadcasts on Twitch to see if they're doing anything shady as well, such as resetting from a save state.

Even if you deem a user "trustworthy enough" it doesn't absolve them of making any mistakes, we're all human and it's still possible to make a mistake that accidentally invalidates your run in the case of certain games. That's why I feel like there really is no substitute to watching all runs submitted, regardless of amount, obsoleteness, or trust factor.

To each their own, not gonna waste my time over obsoleted runs like that.

@Twan_Jones I would love to. It's hard when they are multi-hour runs and your time is limited. I like to watch every run but unfortunately ideals are not always met and we must do things that are practical.
