NG+ run placement on the leaderboards

To be honest i still think the cheat code should be kept for multiple reasons :

  • If you use NG+ no cheat code as the "main ng+ category" it might end up empty forever
  • The NG+ "Cheat Code" removes the pumpkin mark when you start NG+ (aka Cheater Mark) which means it's approve by the devs
  • Why would you put annoying useless RNG that force quit out to be fast ? (It's not dark souls here)
  • The RNG will make the category less attractive (it's already dead with that said)
  • The extension leaderboard became Meme Leaderboard and the Current NG+ is far from being a Meme

If you move NG+ to extensions, I will fuck you up.

I think it's fine with a variable. While I do think it's weird having only one category with a cheat code, I think it's fine to make the run more enjoyable. It's also all within the game, it's not like we use tools outside of the game to make the category what it is. NG+ has become a staple on the boards, I think it has it's place there and should stay there. Regarding the cusomizable layout, is there no other code that prevents map encounters but doesn't unlock everything? Otherwise, we might get YCG to add such a code.

Also, to inform people that might not know what NG+ without cheat code would look like: Since map encounters are IGT based in both how they spawn and how they behave, there would be multiple instances throughout the run where you'd lose time to overworld RNG, which in a category as optimised as NG+ (across all 3 characters, although only Plague and Shovel are relevant for this) basically means a reset. Most prominently, the first Golden Armor would have a chance to get in your way, so ~50% of the runs would just reset after Pridemoor. Definitely no fun environment to run in a already niche category.

SWJSROSY turns off map encounters. If you want to tweak your loadout, you should use that code.

Hi, my old NG+ run from 2014 was removed due to the broken video link. It seems like every other year Twitch updates the link format for highlights, occasionally breaking the previous link. I've since submitted it again. I just want a simple archive of the speedgames that I've worked on, I don't care about rank or world records or what not. So, it's a little disappointing to see this run disappear without some reasonable notification mechanism. It took me 30s to fix the link - although I'd prefer if speedrun.com could have auto-converted it, or Twitch not break it in the first place.

I'd just like y'all's comment on the enforcement of this action, and perhaps also comment on the acceptability of my legacy run in the light of all these other options, like skipping map encounters via cheat code, and huge influx of new categories/DLC. Is it going to be bumped over to yet another side-leaderboard?

Thanks for your time.

@duckfist Your run will stay with the rest of the NG+ runs, regardless of if you did disable map encounters or not. Looking at the replies in this thread and in our Discord, NG+ will most likely stay on the main boards where it is right now, so your run wont be moved to some side-leaderboard.

Regarding the removal of your run in the first place, I'm not sure if there is anything we can do about it. It was automated from my understanding? I'm sorry that you didn't get notified about the removal, but I don't think the burden is on us here and more so on speedrun.com/Twitch. That being said, this is a bit off-topic, so if there is anything further to discuss about this specific problem or if there is a misunderstanding on my side, I'd prefer to make a new thread about it.

Thanks for the clarification, y'all. It's the first time I had a run disappear so felt I had to reach out. Keep up the good work!
