IL Rule Updates

"Savestates are NOT allowed at any point. To verify this, you MUST include video from the start of a console reset leading up to the successful attempt for ALL future individual fighter submissions! If playing on a flash cart, you can't use the reset feature on the cart; the reset button on the console must be physically pushed. Retroarch is the only banned emulator."

Basically, the most important rule is that we're changing the video requirements for all IL submissions. From now on, the video you submit must start from a console reset. If you start the video from the pre-fight screen, it will be rejected, because there's no way to tell for sure whether or not savestates are being used.

Additionally, we're clarifying that, if playing on a flash cart like PowerPak or EverDrive, you cannot use the reset feature on in the cart menu. The reset button on the console must be physically pressed.

Finally, we're banning the RetroArch emulator. It has a unique method of reducing input delay, but can potentially be used to create a smaller amount of input delay than console, and has some strange side effects where certain inputs can be deleted.

All of the old runs will be grandfathered in, so no need to worry about your past submissions. We understand that a lot of submissions will be rejected because a lot of people don't bother to read all the rules, but we decided that it's the best move for the integrity of the leaderboard.

I should add that if you are playing on the Switch or the NES Classic, that we still require a reset of the game being played, which does not mean that you load a state that starts at the title screen. Here are the ways to do proper resets on these two consoles:

For the NES Classic, you will need to press the physical reset button (or the Home button on a Wii VC controller) to go to the menu and press either Start or A to go back into the game. This should start you on a clean reset.

For the Nintendo Switch, you will need to press ZL + ZR at any point during gameplay, then go down to the "Reset Game" option to start a new set of attempts.

For the integrity of the board I get why these rules are being implemented. However, the viewers on my channel don't want to sit through a bunch of fights to get to the IL fight of a certain character. The average watch time on my videos is 1:31. Even on the longer videos it barely gets up to 3:00.

Only the most hardcore fans are going to watch me play through the first 5 or 6 fighters to see the record against Super Macho Man(just an example). Can they go to the end of the video on Youtube? Sure, but will they? Probably not.

Is it possible to get a workaround to this? The best I can think of is to get some sort of pre-approval meeting the above said conditions then having a final cut that includes only the level being attempted while still being able to post here.

For Macho Man, all you have to do is put the in passcode to get to him. However, there are still some fights that would take a bit of time to get to. What you can do is upload the attempt since reset unlisted to YouTube, then submit that to the leaderboards, while uploading a public version of just the fight in question to your YouTube channel.

True about Macho Man, but I think you get my point as I was just using him as an example. I suppose Mr. Sandman would've been the best case to bring up.

I'll have to think about the above suggestion. Uploading 2 videos increases the overall production time in terms of uploading time. Then, there's the idea of having 2 videos possibly splitting the amount of views and watch times although I'm not sure how important this is in the long run since 1) my main content is KO videos, 2) average watch times are less than 2 minutes, and 3) it's not that hard to get to the part of the video you want on Youtube.

Not trying to be adversarial here, I'm just thinking of potential issues that I see for myself. I'm not sure what others may think. I'll have to do some more research into unlisted videos to see if this is even a big issue. If anything it could be a true test of where traffic is coming from for certain videos I suppose.

As an example, my "competitive" IL fights for this game follow that format of 2 uploads with the attempts being unlisted and linked in the descriptions.

I've made this a habit, since savestates were never allowed for real WR attempts of any individual fight in the past, and I've always wanted my proof to be evident that all of my attempts were earned through legitimate means. it makes sense to uphold that standard today, since starting a fight from a savestate that starts at him is very much not the same as having to go through the reset process.

If that were the case, then the new Bald Bull 1 strats would have been hit several times by several people by now, but since the travel to him is the most significant in the game with a huge amount of luck involved, it's a very difficult record to achieve.

Freebachelor, uploading videos unlisted would hardly your average watch times or anything like that. Your audience won't see them- it'd only be for submissions to the leaderboard.

Very true. I tried this as an experiment on my NES Classic and the only guy that ever had a change in patterns was Mr. Dream, but it's not that big of a deal since you can passkey your way to him anyway although I admit it's as tedious now as it was 30 years ago when I first got the damn game, lol.

It would affect the views of a video. I think half of my views for my videos posted here are from here, lol.

Either way it's fine with me. I'm in sales for a living so I think my natural instinct is to always try to negotiate, lol. Question: It occurred to me that for IL records like Don Flamenco 1 people can use the turbo stick for the NES to get a fast time. Has this ever been addressed?
