Posting this incase someone is really dedicated or is more technically aware than me.

So over the past like 2 weeks, I've been trying to hack Uncharted 3 and run it on OFW (official firmware). Why do we want this? Test sequence breaks by removing stuff like doors and gain a deeper understanding of the games mechanics. We can accomplish this same thing on OFW using a "backup" method.

Basically, format your PS3 and create a backup on external media.

It's 7zip files which you extract.

It includes:

Single Player Campaign
Multiplayer
Patch 1.19
Co-op Shade Survival Mode
Co-Op Unlock
Drake's Deception Map Pack
Flashback Map Pack 1
Fort Co-op Adventure

The BC folder is single player and the NP folder is multi player.

Inside the USRDIR folder, we find the main game in PSARC format (basically a zip format from my understanding): http://i.imgur.com/uG6zp0l.png

We can extract PSARC (Google PSARC extractor) and be left with 4 folders: actor33, animstream44, pak23, soundone (put one instead of 1 as it was an emote).

actor33 is the main folder we are interested in for now. For example, if we want to test sequence breaks for Chapter 1 we would remove doors based on the filename: http://i.imgur.com/4uAarST.png

The problem I'm currently having is that yeah it's easy to remove a door but I have no idea how you then "repack" the files back to one PSARC file.

I've tried multiple things like just keeping them in folder form but when I restore the game it says single player must be installed so it obviously can't find the files. The Multiplayer and Co-op maps work fine so it must be how the game expects the files to be made. Apparently the disc version ran via CFW does not have this issue.

Basically, get UC3 for free and if you want, attempt to hack the game. :)

Obviously you must own the UC3 game disc. ;)

do you know if it is possible to fly or so with that hack too? Could be really interesting in U1. I always wonderd if some airwalks would be useful or possible at all.

But seriously, stuff like that would require actually modifying the code of the game which would be possible but you'd need to actually know what you were doing. This stuff is just deleting files where anyone could do it.

I also just left the install fodlers alone this time and the campaign works. It must just be how I am reputting the files back after extraction. I'll try stuff later tonight and repost if I get anything.

Okay I got it working. :)

I had to use a tool called Total Commander to repack the 4 folders into one psarc file. This is the results, pretty promising start.

You have to stream that :D It is really interesting but i do not want to format my PS3 because i still want to play Uncharted 3 online.

What I have been hoping for is getting the levels into a map editor/viewer. I think, with how all 3 games work with checkpoints and level loading, this could be of use.

This does mean you can TECHNICALLY skip all but the first 5 demons of Chapter 21 if you can get past the doors.

I myself was able to hack the game so that i could fly anywhere i want at any height i want :D

Hah Its easy although it only works for uc3 so far, just use tmapi and Netcheat and try find your character Y-position.

Btw do you want speedhack for u1? I have that but i give it to you after few days...

ok nice, yeah speedhack isn't that important cause you can't hack in runs but fly hack wpuld be awesome for u1. Cause i want to check if some skips would work.

You can float around in single player for UC3? Holy hell. By the looks of what you listed it needs more than some backup hack so couldn't do it myself.

I do however have 3 tests I'd like you to do for me if you wouldn't mind? I'll list them here in case you or anyone else can do this.

Chapter 2: After you get thrown out of the museum by the guard, you have to do all that Sully stuff. What happens if you fly over the police blocking barriers and go near the place where Nate steals the wallet? The cutscene there? Basically I'm asking if you can reach Chapter 3 early without doing anything in Chapter 2.

Chapter 8: I'm not even that bothered about Chapter 2 but Chapter 8 is like... PLEASE do this. My ideas:

1. After you take down the drawbridge, to the left is an area further on for Chapter 8 (aka just after the sniping part but just before the courtyard big battle). What happens if you go over there and jump onto the platform that usually breaks with an RPG? Any checkpoints or cutscenes load?

2. If the above fails, my other idea would skip Chapter 9.  During the whole "middle way" dialogue, to the left is an area that you cannot reach. Highlighted it in red: http://i.imgur.com/EOGMMyO.png

This area you get to much later in where you are being shot at with rockets and then you run up the tower to a hole at the top. I want you to float over there from where the screenshot was taken (or during the battle, try both) and see if the cutscene of exiting the spiral staircase plays (where Drake climbs the wooden ladder). That's like... 15 minute skip if it works.




Pfft I have so many ideas I'll list some more.

Chapter 6: After you do the chandelier puzzle and see the popcorn machine, up top is the Chapter 7 area that begins to burn (where you let Sully over with a log). Can you float up and see if any checkpoints are there?

Chapter 9: After you get to the water area (the globe puzzle), you can't get to the other side because there is no water. I do however know there is a checkpoint you hit normally when you jump down so can you hover over and check that area? Curious to see if they removed the checkpoint. It's not a huge skip (only like 2 minutes) but would be soooooo amazing as that part is always annoying and would skip the bugs and lighting the braziers.

Chapter 22: At the start of the Chapter you can see the ending area (where the whole area shakes and you climb up the statues). It's obviously not loaded (just graphically loaded) but what happens if you go near it? Like Uncharted 2 airwalk, the new area should vanish as you get close and then reappear once it loads in. It should be on the same map to allow this. If it does load in, climb the thing like normal and see if the cutscene where the boss woman drowns is there.

Also my friend wants to try this in The Last of Us and he asks "what eboot version does he have" and "what's the player position address in hex".

Long wall of text is loooooooong.

The character position address changes everytime you die or get to new area so i have like 24 different addresses for that, i can't just list them here. 

Secondly i found it works the exactly the same in the last of us but only problem is that my character doesn't fly when i change Y-position and futhermore i only fly when i hold L1 to aim which makes my character rise only in uc3 for whatever reason.

 If some of you would know pointer stuff with netcheat you could find the main address that controls the character position so that you could have only 1 address but i can't do that.

Sure i can do that, once i get home i upload them here but you need cfw and tmapi (CCAPI doesn't work with that) and it works only with Netcheat. Notice that the list is not complete so if you find none of those y axis codes doesn't work then you propably need to change map.
