this was a long post as i vented hard, cuz need typing practise XDDD i stumbled upon this shit that i give 0 fucks about actually,

but i dont want to "hide" anything, especially i dont want a line like "these random guys on a random forum would call you a liar if u ignore/hide this w/e it is " appear in my head

i give 0 fucks about this, nevertheless i provide all information that i have in my head about this down below

cliff notes: 1.switching to colemak, got bored/frustrated 2.decided to finish last gta thing that bothered me, aka how much time driving in a straight line saves. 3. got shocked by this video 4. initial thoughts -> must be some kind of rendering/ interpolating issue 5. aligned subs and they are frame perfect which eliminates 4)

from there thoughts go -> https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/gta_san_andreas_official_thread589.html according to my own study from year ago, there is no difference between 25fps and 30 fps on a straight line drives

from there 3 thing possibilities

  1. driving in a straight line is slower than waving? ROFL (which briefly coverd with 1 test with above link, aka straightshould win 5+ frames)
  2. my gta is slower altogether somehow, which may explain why tirean struggles at the start
  3. and well last but not least u know^_^

also rewied it again to make sure, i was down lenght of a boot @ first lamp post, went straight with jammed w, and lost by full car body + boot, vs waving car

95% of this post is transparency and 5% typing practice , 0 accusations

shit i forgot

i tied misterposts time @ ryder i lost a frame to kortek @ tagginupturf and i beat josh @ cleaning the hood

so thats what shocked me so much, i though i got that drive easy and i lost by mile XDD

How can you know that both were equally fast at the start? I'd start from speed zero at a place where you are alligned with the 'path' next to the bridge. This way, there is no turning causing speed differences. Then try again: 1)'wiggle-cam'+straight driving 2) straight driving 3) waving 2 and 3 using the traffic cheat THGLOJ This eliminates hardware differences and my own issue with this.

Maybe the areas you tried are ones that cap your speed which maybe does not work properly while turning. To those for whom this feals new: think of how slow you can drive on the LV strip.

Could also be that the game has some diagonal movement calculation fail (like so many games do). Simple going on the airport strip and going straight vs waving a little bit (as if you're dodging cars, so not too much) should be an easy test for non-lazy people.

England

Finally decided to do some testing on driving speeds.

Straight line and "dodging traffic" speeds are pretty similar to one another.

(I didn't know how to make side by side video so timings are in the comments of the youtube video :D)

The times are straight: 24.85 swerving: 25.17 That is very, very roughly speaking 0.5 seconds per minute or 0.5 minutes per hour. I would call that a big difference. This is a test at top speed, we also need tests for places where one accelerates.

I doubt that swerving is that common in runs (everyone's or just mine?) - though I am not sure. I believe I "de-spawn" almost everything and keep in the middle of the road to avoid those cars spawning right in front of me. Those cars that I dodge, I do or should (what I should do is what counts) turn slightly for, not strongly right in front of them.

England

I don't despawn often in my runs and prefer to dodge. But I feel I need to learn to despawn consistently to avoid the time penalty of swerving.
